Thank you United Dairy Industry of Michigan (Milk Means More) and Michigan dairy farmers for the grant so that our racers could enjoy the most delicious and beneficial post-race recovery drink ever! Thanks also to Country Dairy, Inc and The Q Smokehouse for getting the milk to us.

Lumber Coast. Historically Michigan has always been a lumber coast - logs were rolled down the massive sand dunes to waiting ships, including those headed to rebuild Chicago after The Great Fire. These days, Lumber Coasters also roll through dirt and sand, but now it's for the Lumberjack 100 (Matt Acker's race) and Coast to Coast 200 on successive Saturdays. Congrats to everyone who conquered both. Don't be shy, comment below if you accomplished the feat this year or mention someone who did!

Like the Good Samaritan in the Bible, many Good Samaritans in the race took time out of their journey to help someone along the side of a road even though it came at a cost to them. Thanks to all of you who helped others, even if it was just a quick ask to make sure others were okay. We’re grateful the race has this kind of vibe. We want to recognize two in particular for our Good Samaritan Award. This year’s winners are Rocco Mularoni nominated by Tim Huizenga and Jake Dockery and Molly Star, nominated by John Britt. The winners will receive a $50 credit toward next year’s race.
“Jake (and Molly) not only shared their pump and tube (after a series of failed tire repairs), but also their kindness, patience, and joy in our surroundings. That wheel took about 40 minutes to deal with and they were with me for about half of that,” said John.
Rocco helped a rider with a collarbone injury. “He proceeded to flag down an ATV that had kayaks on it asking them if they could give the rider a ride to the nearest road intersection to more easily allow an ambulance to pick him up,” Tim says The riders in the ATV happily helped making room for him in the front seat and put his bike on top of the ATV. Rocco made sure the rider was safe before resuming his ride…. Rocco did something similar just the week before at the Lumberjack race. He is one of the most caring people that I know...and ALWAYS puts people first even if it causes his race times to decrease.”

Many have suffered for our freedom so that we have the freedom to suffer... on a bike.
Happy Fourth of July and thanks again for a really special day last Saturday. Well done to Rob Meendering Photography for capturing this guy out on the course.

While we don’t recruit top racers- choosing to focus on the “everyday” rider and a chill vibe - we do recognize excellence. And these people really excelled on Saturday. Well done.

SAVE THE DATE: June 26, 2027. Split the mitt for 200 miles or loop the west coast for 100. Registration to open in October. If you need lodging in or near Au Gres on June 25 for the 200 (Friday pre-racing meeting, Saturday 6 am start), we recommend making a reservation sooner rather than later.

In light of the record breaking pace and finish rates and the need to slow down racers next year, we’re excited to announce a partnership with the New Zealand Sheep Council in 2027.
