Good coaching isn’t about fixing everything at once.
There are other things in this hitter’s swing that I could address.
But they’re not the priority right now.
We’re working on controlling the move forward, creating better balance and allowing him to rotate around a more stable center axis.
Three swings. One priority. Progress with each rep.
The goal isn’t a perfect swing.
Identify what matters most. Work on it. Then progress from there.

A good lesson isn’t just about taking swings. It’s about building a progression.
Today we started with barrel accuracy, moving the tee to different locations and challenging the barrel to adjust.
Then we progressed to front toss → live BP → machine work, adding movement, decision-making and velocity along the way.
The goal is to take the work from the drill and make it show up when the game speeds up.

How would you describe this bat path?
There are a lot of ways to teach a swing. I’m interested in what you see here.

We’re working on getting the barrel through the baseball instead of cutting the swing off.
I’m opening a few more spots for in-person lessons this fall.

Not sure what your player needs? Send me a message and tell me a little about him.
Every hitter feels fear.
Fear of striking out.
Fear of failing.
Fear of letting people down.
Playing fearless does not mean pretending that fear is gone.
It means making fear smaller while confidence and courage grow bigger.
Confidence is built through preparation.
Courage is the willingness to compete even when fear is still present.
That is what I want for my players.
Not to feel nothing.
Not to believe failure is impossible.
But to trust their preparation enough to play freely, compete aggressively and keep fear from making their decisions.
The goal is not to eliminate fear.
The goal is to build a player who is bigger than it.
What do you think holds hitters back more: fear of failure or lack of preparation?
Parents tell me all the time, “My kid can hit… he just doesn’t hit for power.”
Here are three phases that help hitters create more power:
1. Stride to balance.
2. Create stretch.
3. Sequence the swing.
Power isn’t just about strength. It’s about transferring energy efficiently into the baseball.
Comment “PLAN” if you’d like help building more power or want to know which phase your player needs to improve first.
Throwing harder isn't about throwing more.
It's about learning how to move more efficiently.
Over the years I've worked with players who put in countless hours throwing, yet never reached the velocity they were capable of—not because they lacked effort, but because they lacked a plan.
That's why I'm excited to launch the BaseballSmith 6-Week Throwing Development Program.
This program is designed for baseball players 13 and older who want to improve:
⚾ Throwing velocity
⚾ Arm strength
⚾ Throwing mechanics
⚾ Body control & movement efficiency
⚾ Shoulder durability

Is your player hitting or developing?
There is a difference.
A player can take hundreds of swings every week and still carry the same problems into the next game.
The issue is not always effort.
Often, the issue is direction.
Before a player starts training, he should be able to answer three questions:
1. What am I working on?
2. Why am I working on it?
3. What should a successful rep feel or look like?
Without those answers, batting practice can quickly become exercise instead of development.
More swings are not automatically better swings.
The goal is to identify the player’s biggest limitation, create the right training focus and provide FAST feedback that helps the adjustment transfer into games.
This is how players built competence.
Competence creates confidence.
And confidence gives players a better chance to compete when the game gets difficult.
