July is Parks and Recreation Month!
This week's theme, The Power of Play, reminds us that sports and recreation are about so much more than the game. They teach teamwork, build confidence, encourage healthy lifestyles, and create lifelong memories for participants of all ages.
At Abilene Parks & Recreation, we're proud to provide opportunities for children and adults to stay active through swim team, baseball, softball, volleyball, football, soccer, pickleball, adult basketball, volleyball and softball, tournaments, camps, and so much more. Whether it's a child stepping onto the field for the very first time or an adult joining a league to stay active and connect with friends, every game helps build a stronger, healthier community.
Sports give our youth the opportunity to learn valuable life skills like leadership, perseverance, sportsmanship, and respect, while providing adults with opportunities to stay healthy, reduce stress, and strengthen friendships. The lessons learned on the field and court extend far beyond the final score.
This Park and Recreation Month, we celebrate the staff, coaches, volunteers, parents, officials, and participants who make youth and adult sports possible. Thank you for helping us inspire active lifestyles and create opportunities where everyone can play, compete, and belong.
Join us this July and experience The Power of Play!

This year's National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) theme is "The Power of Parks & Recreation," and we are proud to celebrate the role parks and recreation play in making Abilene a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.
Every day, parks and recreation create opportunities for people of all ages to learn, play, stay active, and build lasting memories. Whether it's a child playing their first game of T-ball, families cooling off at the swimming pool, friends enjoying our parks and walking trails, seniors gathering for meals and activities, or neighbors coming together for community events, parks and recreation are at the heart of what makes our community special.
This year has been an exciting one for Abilene Parks & Recreation. We've continued to offer quality programs and events for our community, made improvements to our parks and facilities, and are preparing to break ground on our new sports complex—a project that will serve generations of athletes and families while bringing new opportunities and visitors to our community.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of our full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff, volunteers, coaches, officials, community partners, sponsors, and supporters. Your time, passion, and commitment help create meaningful experiences for thousands of residents and visitors each year.
Throughout July, we'll be highlighting the people, places, and programs that showcase The Power of Parks & Recreation right here in Abilene.
Thank you for supporting our parks, participating in our programs, and helping us continue to build a community where everyone has a place to play, grow, and connect.
💚 Happy Park & Recreation Month!
