A newly established community based school in the Southern sector of Bwindi, opened to cater for the education of the Batwa, orphans & vulnerable child

The school is located very close to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, between Nkuringo and Rushaga visitor centres, about 1 km to Nyabaremura briefing point for mountain gorilla tracking. One of the main goals is to offer the Batwa and their children education, including them in the local community. Before it became a national park, the Batwa used to live within Bwindi, and were known as “the

Class of 2025!

They have worked so hard towards today, the day when they complete primary school! Now they go home to rest (and probably a lot of housework for most of them!) until results come, likely sometime in January 2026.

Together for success!

I believe the cake was a success! (Though a little bit deformed 🫣)

02/11/2025

It is that time of the year: Cake time!
And at our school, cake means Primary 7 are about to sit their Primary Leaving Examination.

It has become a tradition that the directress bakes a cake for the candidates the night before their first exams (they last for 2 days).
This year is a bit different as she is not staying in Rubuguri. But that does not mean that traditions are changing! There shall be cake (though this year we bought it from a local bakery).

There are some added challenges: number one is getting the cake to Rubuguri. And those of you who have visited us, what are the chances it will reach in one piece? The director is travelling there this evening on a boda boda (motorcycle).
Let's all pray that it reaches well!

And please leave words of encouragement for our candidates who have worked so hard to reach this level and will now put all their knowledge to the test!

If they pass these exams they are ready to progress to secondary school!

Together for success!

Yesterday our school football team represented Rubuguri Town Council in the next level of the football tournament. Here we met the winners from neighbouring Town Councils.
5 teams were playing.

Our first game was against Kashenyi Primary School. We won 2-0!

The second game was against Rutaka Primary School. It ended with a draw 0-0.

These results qualified us to play the final against Sanuriro Primary School.

At full time the score board showed 0-0 and the winner had to be determined by penalties.
After both teams had shot 5 penalties each, the score was 3-3 and we went into sudden-death penalties. A total of 9 penalties were shot by each team. Unfortunately, our team missed the last penalty while the opposing team scored and they will represent our county at the district competitions in Kisoro.

Although we didn't win, we are so proud of the boys and how they represented us. With continued practices we hope to come back even stronger next year!

Our school together with the other schools from the town council all cheered them on. Last week we were competitors, this week we were all united!

Yesterday our school football team participated in the local football tournament.
We played a total of 3 games, all of which were knock-out games.

Our first game was against Nkuringo Child Care. At full-time the score was 1-1. We then went for penalties and we won 4-3 overall.

The second game was against Rubuguri Primary School. At full-time the score was 0-0 and again we proved the victors after penalties, with a 3-1 win!

The third match was the final against Number Primary School. At full-time the score board said 0-0 and we found ourselves again in a penalty shoot out! Our children must have had a lot of practice with penalties (or just very confident and without nerves) because they proved themselves for the 3rd time of the day with a 4-1 win!

The win in the final means that we have qualified to be the representatives of rubuguri for the boys football tournament! Next Friday we will play in another tournament against the winners of neighbouring centers to see who will go to Kisoro for the district tournament!

We are so happy and proud of the boys as well as the teachers and staff who have been working with them to reach this accomplishment!

We have been quiet here on Facebook!
Sorry about that!

Today we officially closed the first term of 2025 and the children together with parents came to collect report cards to see how the children performed this term.

Now both teachers and children will go on a well deserved holiday before they all return for term 2 in 3 weeks time.

If you are supporting one of our children, expect a report of your child within the next weeks (no promises on exactly when they are ready 🫣)

Thursday last week (23 January 2025) we finally received the news we have been waiting for: the results of our P7 candidates!
And they all passed the exams and are eligible for enrollment in secondary school!!!

We are happy and proud of all of them and are excited to see what the future holds for them!

As the year 2024 comes to an end we want to thank all of our supporters, both near and far! Your continuous love and support has helped us reach the end of another year successfully.
From visits of old and new friends, to financial support of both new structures and the day to day running of the school, to thought and ideas brought to us, each and every one of you has helped us develop and for that we are so grateful!

2025 is approaching quickly and we are excited for things to come:
The school will celebrate 10 years of operations! It is amazing to think about all we have been able to achieve in this time, though we are not yet where we want to be (but are well on the way!).

Perhaps fittingly, the year we will celebrate our 10 year anniversary is also the year when we will have our first set of Primary 7 candidates sit their exams from our school (all previous years our children have had to walk to one of the local government schools). We received the permit to host PLE from our school this year from UNEB (the government organ responsible for all exams in the country). And our candidates of 2025 will be our pilots of this new step for the school!

We all look forward to the new year to come and wish you all a wonderful and prosperous new year!

At our school we are using phonics as the method of teaching reading and writing. In middle class they know all the sounds, however, they still need more work with blending. And this is what we are working on!
The children are at different levels in their reading journey, and this is making it difficult for the teacher to cater to all. So today we introduced different activities for the children to do. Some were reading and drawing, some were making puzzles and reading the words while a third group was working closely with their teacher to focus on blending. Having smaller groups to work with allowed the teacher to give more attention to individual children. And for some children she noticed improvement in this short session! She was very positive to this way of working in class and expressed an interest in continuing with it!

We are so happy to have teachers who are willing to learn and develop themselves as teachers in addition to developing the children they work with!
