Will they ever understand me? That’s the question many of us have

25/08/2026

I thought I was finally getting somewhere with my revovery, but I pushed too hard and ended in A&E with lower back pain.

But setbacks don’t mean to start over again, it’s just a little pause

Let me reintroduce myself 🙈

I’m Jana, went through 4 injuries and realized that mental part was more difficult that physical part. So I decided to be more vocal about that.

Your injury doesn’t need to happen for a reason. Yes, it changed me, it taught me things and forced me to alow down, but we don’t need to look for grandiose meaning in it.

Recovery is messy and we don’t need to turn it to a beautiful story, just get through that.

What did you learn during your recovery? 🩷

We talkna lot about rest, rehab, sleep nutrition. But emotional recovery? That one is quieter. More uncomfortable. Easy to skip.

And yet emotional state directly affects our physical healing. Stress raises inflammation. Anxiety disrupts sleep. Grief affects the energy.

We can’t separate them. The body keeps the score, as they say.

Give yourself time a little bit of space for what’s actually happening inside you. This is also part of your recovery.

You don’t have to be a professional athlete to grieve your injury.

You don’t have to be training for Olympics for the loss of movement to break your heart. Wheter you run marathons or go for Sunday morning jog, that matters. Whether you play football professionally or you just love Friday game with your mates, that matters.

The mental hit of losing something you love is not measured by how many medals you have. And yet almost all the mental support in injury recovery is for professional athletes. Everyone else is expected to just get on with it.

I don’t think that’s right. We are all allowed to struggle. We are all allowed to grieve the loss of movement.
