Dear Family,
Today is the most important day in our Profession of Water Safety Advocates and practitioners (Survival Swimming Teachers, Lifeguards, Rescuers, Lifesavers, Bystanders, Attendants, Technicians and so on.
We commemorate the World Drowning Prevention Day 25th July 2026 and on this day we reflect on 300,000 people drowning annually in the World and in the last 10 years we have lost over 3,000,000 people.
In the World, we lose about 30 people per hour due to drowning.
In Uganda, we lose about 8 people to drowning daily, and average of 1 person in 2 hours!!
Children are more vulnerable at about 24% of this fatality followed by young adults due to open water occupational hazards.
All we need to know is that Drowning can be prevented in a Systems Thinking approach (Holistic way) not a linear thinking approach which only intervenes in one direction of stopping drowning.
Therefore, we need all hands on deck and a multi-sectoral approach to stop Drowning in Uganda.
So we need you to do your part and all those collective efforts will contribute to the Systems approach in Uganda to stop Drowning.
Everyone can drown, No one Should!
Unite to turn the Tide on Drowning in Uganda.
