The WMO State of the Climate in Africa 2025 report highlights the growing human cost of extreme weather and climate change across Africa, with 13 million people affected and over 3,000 lives lost, impacting communities, livelihoods, and economies.
These numbers remind us why climate action cannot sit outside humanitarian action.

On 18 -19 August 2026, CAN Tanzania (CAN Tanzania) collaborated with the Prime Minister's Office, DINGONET (DINGONET TANZANIA), UNICEF (UNICEFTanzania), and other stakeholders to organize the commemorations of , which was an opportunity to strengthen coordination around what happens before, during, and after disasters and honour humanitarians who take action when disaster strikes.

For CAN Tanzania, our message was focused on:
📌The use of climate services for early warnings to enable early and local action
📌The use of climate information technologies to anticipate risks
📌Timely finance and coordination to support preparedness and community resilience

Climate action is humanitarian action when it helps communities anticipate, prepare, and build resilience (Leave no one behind).

If disasters can affect every one of us, then building safer, more prepared, and more resilient systems cannot be left to one institution alone.

Today's World Humanitarian Day Commemoration is a do-not-miss conversation for stakeholders working to strengthen humanitarian preparedness and response.

Join us today and tomorrow (18 -19 August 2026) at Danken Hall, Mikocheni (Opposite Palm Village) as state and non-state actors come together to ask an important question of how can we work together before, during, and after disasters?

This is a call for all CSOs who want to meaningfully contribute to the review of the Tanzania National Climate Change Response Strategy (NCCRS).

Climate Action Network Tanzania (CAN Tanzania), in collaboration with the Vice President’s Office (VPO Ofisi ya Makamu wa Rais), invites Civil Society Organizations to participate in a national consultation webinar supporting the ongoing review of the NCCRS.

The webinar will provide participants with an update on the implementation status, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned from the previous National Climate Change Response Strategy. It will also create an opportunity for Civil Society Organizations to share experiences, priorities, and practical recommendations for consideration in the development of the next strategy.

Day 4, towards World Environment Day 2026, brought us back to Tumbatu, where we visited Primary and Secondary Schools to continue our campaign on proper waste management awareness.

What stood out to us was the students’ commitment to take action based on the training they received. Truly, the future belongs to young people, and giving them the right environmental knowledge today means stronger, cleaner, and more climate-conscious communities tomorrow.

Yesterday, 2nd June 2026, was day 3 of our World Environment Day journey, and its actions speak for themselves.

In collaboration with Chuini Shehia leaders, Chuini Community Welfare Group, CAN Tanzania network members, and trained students from Primary and Secondary, we collected waste and demonstrated segregation in practice.

The action in Chuini will keep the community clean and healthy while inspiring others to do the same.

Day 2 of our World Environment Day 2026 journey took us to Chuini for a session on solid waste management awareness.

At Chuini Primary and Secondary Schools, we had engaging discussions on waste awareness, responsible disposal, and the important role young people play as environmental change makers. We sincerely thank the school administration for the warm welcome, support, and commitment to environmental education.

We also celebrate the students for their promise and dedication to keep their schools and home environment clean. Their commitment is a powerful step toward building responsible, healthy, and sustainable communities.

When children learn to protect the environment, entire communities benefit. With knowledge, action, and consistency, a green legacy can be achieved.
