🇹🇿 “THE TROPHY STAYS HOME.”

That was the message from Tanzania U19 Women’s captain Saumu Deo Hussen during today’s press conference ahead of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2026.

Playing on home soil, Saumu spoke about the motivation within the squad and the team’s determination to compete strongly throughout the tournament.

“The trophy stays home.” A simple message, and a clear source of motivation for Team Tanzania.

“Kombe libaki nyumbani.” Hiyo ndiyo kauli na motisha ya kikosi cha Tanzania kinapojiandaa kuanza mashindano nyumbani Dar es Salaam.

The ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2026 press conference was held earlier today in Dar es Salaam, bringing together the captains and head coaches of all participating teams ahead of the start of competition.

The session provided an opportunity for each team to share their preparations, expectations and ambitions for the tournament, which gets underway tomorrow at the TCA Cricket Arena, University of Dar es Salaam.

The captains of the eight participating nations came together earlier today for the official Captains’ Shoot ahead of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2026.

Representing Tanzania, Nigeria, Uganda, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Namibia and Kenya, the captains marked one of the final official tournament activities before competition begins tomorrow at the TCA Cricket Arena, University of Dar es Salaam.

A warm welcome to Norbert Abbi, who has arrived in Tanzania ahead of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2026.

Norbert joins the tournament’s match officials team as preparations continue for the competition at the TCA Cricket Arena, University of Dar es Salaam.

UGANDA HAS ARRIVED 🇺🇬🏏

Uganda’s U19 Women’s team has arrived in Tanzania ahead of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2026.

Uganda will compete in Group A alongside Nigeria, Tanzania and Malawi, with their opening match against Nigeria on 30 August at the TCA Cricket Arena.

A warm welcome to Lauren Agenbag and Kerrin Klaaste of South Africa, who have arrived in Tanzania ahead of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2026.

Both will be part of the officiating team for the tournament, bringing valuable international experience to the competition at the TCA Cricket Arena.

We are pleased to welcome Julia Chibhabha of Zimbabwe, who has arrived in Tanzania to serve as Tournament Referee for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2026.

Julia is a former Zimbabwe international cricketer and notably served as the first captain of the Zimbabwe Women’s national team. She is also currently listed on the ICC International Panel of Referees, bringing extensive playing and officiating experience to the tournament.

Rwanda’s U19 Women’s team has arrived in Tanzania ahead of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2026.

Rwanda will compete in Group B alongside Zimbabwe, Namibia and Kenya, with their opening match against Zimbabwe on 30 August at the TCA Cricket Arena.

We are pleased to welcome Dedunu De Silva of Sri Lanka to Tanzania ahead of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2026.

Dedunu brings a wealth of international experience, having represented Sri Lanka Women in both ODI and T20I cricket before moving into officiating. She is now listed on the ICC International Panel of Umpires and has previously officiated at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
