I've been thinking about this for a long time, and I'm still deeply angry.
Why is it that when Star has clearly shaken her head and pushed them away, and even I as her mom have repeatedly said "No" and "She doesn't like it," relatives still forcefully touch her body and even kiss her?
Some actions were so sudden that I couldn't even block them in time—in that moment, I genuinely felt the urge to slap them, but they were older relatives.
Is respecting someone really that hard? Since when did the expression of "love" become disrespect?
Not to mention that to a small baby, people they've only met a few times are basically strangers; even her dad and I would never force her if she shakes her head no to being touched or held, unless it's strictly necessary.
Being cute is truly not an excuse for you to touch her as you please.
On the drive home, Star wouldn't let me touch her, and even pushed my hand away from her car seat, so I let go.
She seemed to be processing and testing whether I would actually let go when she refused; only after that did she reach out her little hand again for me to hold.
I feel like she was confused—confused about why those people still touched her when she had clearly rejected.
The traditional culture of the older generation is a test for us;
I want her to grow into a brave girl who says "No."
