Flow with the rhythm of nature 🌱
Calligraphy in Movement Workshop
As our breathing expands and flow through the body, our movements become more aligned with the natural rhythms of nature. Our expressions flow more freely, as if dancing with the nature's flow.

Last year we participated in the Documentary Voyage en Autistan: Taïwan de Josef Schovanec, where we invited French philosopher, writer, and autism advocate Josef Schovanec to participate in our Calligraphy in Movement workshop during the documentary episode on Taiwan.
In the first part of the workshop we introduced Josef Schovanec to the art of traditional Chinese calligraphy. We looked at the history and evolution of Chinese writing and the basic tools and brushwork in calligraphy. Joseph wrote a character 吉, which he later expanded onto the dance floor in the Calligraphy in Movement workshop.
In the second part of the workshop, we invited Josef to participate in our Calligraphy in Movement workshop. In the first part we started by lying on the ground, where we used a guided imagery flow to guide breathwork throughout the body and center the focus on the body. We then slowly started to explore movement and it's connection to cursive calligraphy. In the final part of the workshop, we started to paint on the dance floor using a large scale brush that we borrowed from Taiwan's ink brush expert Chen Yao-Wen 陳耀文.
In the beginning Josef was mostly moving in the center of the dance floor, but as the dance and calligraphy between Yi-Wei and Josef progressed, there was a very magical synergy that started to happen, in the way he expanded his movements and presence throughout the whole dance space. We felt a certain sense of freedom, expansion, and connection with the body throughout this very beautiful and emotive dance and calligraphy flow.
I am sharing some of the photos that we took during the workshop to document this very wonderful moment.
You can see this very beautiful moment in the episode Voyage en Autistan: Taïwan de Josef Schovanec available on Canal+ and Apple TV France.
