ON THE ROAD TO LA 2028

By Clayton Clarke

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: The journey towards the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA took a crucial turn for twenty young local athletes who represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2026 World Under 20 Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA (August (6-9)

The youngsters will be hoping to return to the USA in two years' time , this time to Los Angeles for the greatest global sporting show.

For majority of the national representatives the trip to Oregon was their debut international meet. Some were at the 2024 edition of the World Under 20 Champs in Lima, Peru.

While the local stars did not return home from Oregon with medals, they gave the world a glimpse of their potential. Makaelan Woods (IG Fastlane) was the top performer, finishing fourth in the men's 200m finals. Woods then teamed up with Kadeem Chinapoo (Burnley), Alex Seepersad (Phoenix) and Trevaughn Stewart (Burnley) to secure fifth spot in the Men's 4x100m final.

Imamni Mills (Memphis Pioneers), Naomi Theodore (Phoenix), Kaori Robley (Kaizen Panthers), Kayla Charles (Abilene Wildcats) and Zayda Charles (Pt Fortin New Jets) grabbed eighth place in the women's 4x100m fina

Kairibelle Sports, in collaboration with I Support Athlete-Centred, will be shining the spotlight on these athletes (and others) in their quest to qualify for the 2028 LA Games and fulfill what may be a lifelong dream for many.
