Our Timorese Training Fund has been allowing us to provide training and capacity building for Timorese since 2022 - our internships , Dive Master training and some sponsored dives for locals are sponsored by this fund. so far it’s been mostly self funded and we have done local fundraisers but now we are taking the opportunity to help Global. Small donations make huge differences to us so we appreciate all 🙂

Meet Manta # 1607 - “Ima Barker” How many Instructor Candidates get to name a wild Manta Ray as a graduation present?! 🎓 To celebrate the end of our recent SDI Women’s IDC at the end of May, our amazing candidates wrapped up their course with a fun dive. Not only did they get to celebrate their massive success, but they were also treated to a truly iconic encounter with two incredibly chilled-out Manta Rays putting on a show at a cleaning station. One gorgeous female absolutely stole the show, hanging out with the group for the entire dive! We reached out to our friend Dr. Asia Armstrong at @projectmanta, who confirmed that this beautiful lady was previously unnamed, having only been sighted once before in June 2024 at Lady Elliot Island. To mark the end of an unforgettable course, the candidates officially named her “Ima Barker” — a perfect tribute to their incredible Instructor Trainer, Kate Barker! Kate famously welcomes her newly minted instructors “into the club” with their “I’m a Barker” polos. We couldn’t think of a more fitting addition to the Cohort 1 family. Welcome to the club, Ima Barker!
