Time for another social run! This Sunday we're heading back to the beautiful trails around the White Pagoda. The trails are varied and fun, making them suitable for less experienced trail runners too. So if you’re just getting started or a road runner looking to test out the dirt for the first time, this one is for you.
It will be an easy effort (but still an effort! 😉) group run—no runner left behind! Stick around after the loop for an optional post-run coffee and chat.

Chiang Mai Trail Running
Our goal is to be the go-to resource for trail running in Chiang Mai and Northern Thailand.
This page was created because information about trail running in Chiang Mai is scattered and cluttered with commercial offers. We aim to only offer relevant information, with a focus on sharing running routes and practical information.
EVERYTHING you need to know about Trails & Tribes: The Coffee Edition — in one place. 🏔️☕

⸻
THE RUNNING
The routes start and end in Phrao district, Chiang Mai, and head deep into the hills. You'll run on real mountain trails, roughly 25km each day, with solid elevation to match. The terrain is varied, passing through forest, dirt roads, and remote countryside most people never see. It's not a race. There's no clock, no pressure — just you, the trail, and some of the best scenery in Northern Thailand. If you have comfortably finished a half marathon trail distance before, this adventure should pose no problem for you.
But if the distance feels like a lot midway, a support vehicle is on standby. You can hop in any time, no questions asked. Depending on the group size, we will have a lead runner and other support runners as needed. The team and standby vehicles are in contact by phone and radio, so support is never far away.
⸻
THE COFFEE & CULTURE
By the end of the day, you'll arrive somewhere special: a homestay in an Akha hill tribe village, tucked into the mountains. Your overnight bag will already be there waiting — you run with only what you need for the day. The atmosphere and lifestyle in the village are very different from life in the valley, and you'll learn all about ethnic traditions.
The villages in this whole area grow and process their own coffee, and this is where the trip earns its name. You'll spend time hands-on with a local farmer — learning about picking, processing, roasting, right through to your own cup. It's not just a demonstration. It's real, unpolished, and genuinely one of the best parts of the whole weekend (if you like coffee 😉). Expect a warm welcome, real food, good company, and probably more coffee than you knew you wanted.
⸻
THE FOOD
The goal of the trip is to support locals as much as possible, not only financially, but also by highlighting their culture and traditions. Food is a very big part of this, and besides the trail snacks, all the food will be what the locals eat — simple but delicious. Expect to discover some new flavors and ingredients, in the best way possible. We can't give you the exact menu because it will be 100% seasonal, but if you have any dietary restrictions, we'll of course do our best to accommodate.

Ready for a proper elevation session? Join us this Saturday for a focused workout loop.
This isn’t a social jog; it's a structured workout. While everyone is welcome, please note that all runners are expected to navigate the route independently and be confident on technical trails. Unlike our social runs, we will not be waiting for everyone or sweeping the course. You are responsible for your own safety. Know your limits!
The Plan 🗺
Start: Easy group road warmup from Fernpresso.
The Climb: A long, steady, hard effort up Last Man Standing Trail to Bhubing Palace. Put in the work!
Pitstop: A short break at the top for coffee and a refuel.
The Descent: A consistent, relaxed (but not slow) downhill push.
Finish: A final road cooldown back to the starting point
Let’s hit some elevation! 📈

Join us on Sunday for a fun trail loop starting and ending at the CMU Agricultural Center! We'll cover quite a lot of elevation, and the trail includes technical single track, but we will take it easy. The focus will be on time on feet rather than speed, and we won't leave anyone behind.
To make sure we beat the heat (and be back on time for to join 's Mindful Jog), the departure is at 06.00am from Fernpresso at Lake. Check the Google pin for the correct location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GNwNbcrQB8N8Dwyd8
The route will be around 8km with over 400m of elevation gain. While this is challenging, power hiking up is definitely acceptable. If you are able to comfortably run the distance we are doing on the flat, you'll be totally fine!
Like always, this event is completely free and informal, which means you are responsible for yourself. If you want to support this initiative, consider one of the following options:

Another fun trail run in the books, Doi Kham never disappoints with it's fun single track and fast double track sections. And especially when it's with a great bunch of people. It was again a very international one, if I got it correctly: 🇧🇪 🇩🇪 🇳🇱 🇹🇭 🏴 🇳🇿 🇧🇷 🇭🇰 🇲🇲 🇺🇲 🇮🇱 🇰🇷
