6 Year Old Me Wouldn’t Believe This…
If you told six year old me this would be my life one day, she wouldn’t have believed you.
This was my last school photo in Poland. What came after, I haven’t shared much over the years.
I moved to England at six, not speaking a word of English, and went straight into school.
Day 1, I got put in a separate room to learn, while everyone else carried on without me. I couldn’t understand anyone and no one could understand me. Isolating, to say the least. Whilst they played I sat in the corner.
I felt like I didn’t belong… and like no one would ever understand me.I learned fast, because I had no choice. But that fear of not fitting in carried on for years.
Always saying yes. Not speaking my mind. Wanting to be liked. Needing to blend in and not feel “different.”
What started as my biggest weakness became my first real strength. Speaking two languages got me my first job in London, where my corporate career started. That was the first time I actually appreciated that part of my life.
Fast forward, and I basically YAP for a living. Podcast, coaching calls, content, voice notes, all day, every day. The girl too scared to open her mouth now doesn’t stop. Soz not soz :)
I’m bilingual because of that year in the separate room. I’ve picked up bits of other languages since, just from travelling and living abroad. The thing that once isolated me completely became the exact thing I now use to connect with people everywhere I go.
I’ve built a business rooted in being unapologetically yourself and not fearing standing out. I’ve coached women across different countries, and now live somewhere completely different again, still adapting, same as I did at six.
Six year old me thought not being understood was the worst thing that could happen to her. She had no idea it would become the exact thing that taught her how to actually connect with people.
Wherever you feel like you don’t fit right now, whatever feels impossible to overcome, I need you to hear this. It’s not permanent. I’m proof of that, and I wasn’t anything special, I just kept going.
And turned what once felt like my biggest downfall into building my dream life…
