Hoe goed ken jij jezelf eigenlijk?

25/08/2026

Misschien mag je gewoon even stilstaan...

en luisteren naar jezelf.

23/08/2026

Soms mag je gewoon even stilstaan.

Soms is vertrouwen genoeg...

22/08/2026

"It's like I'm always on."

Someone recently shared this with me.

She described how difficult it is to truly switch off.

Even when there's nothing she needs to do,
her mind keeps going... Thinking... Analyzing... Replaying conversations... And thinking about what needs to happen next.

At night, she's tired... but her mind isn't.

And I think a lot of people can relate to this.

Sometimes we're so used to constantly thinking, doing, and responding that we don't even realize how much is happening within us.

This is where self-awareness becomes so important. Truly being aware of what's actually going on within you.

What keeps your mind so active?
What are you carrying mentally or emotionally?
What makes it difficult to slow down?
What do you actually need?

Because self-leadership starts with understanding yourself.

It's not only about knowing when to push yourself forward.

It's also knowing when to slow down.
When to step back, when to set a boundary,
or when to give yourself what you need.

You can't lead yourself well if you're not aware of what's happening within you.

So... how are you really doing right now?

If you recognize yourself in this and feel like you could use some support in understanding what’s really going on within you, feel free to reach out.

Have you ever known deep down what you wanted to do... but still struggled to make the decision?

You constantly go back and forth.

"What if I make the wrong choice?"
"What if there's something I'm not seeing?"
"What if I regret this later?"
"Maybe I need to think about it a little longer."

So you analyze...
You consider every possible outcome.
You want to hear different perspectives from people you trust.

And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Sometimes another perspective helps you see something you hadn't considered. Sometimes it challenges your thinking. And sometimes it gives you even more clarity about what you already knew deep down.

But there comes a point where more thinking doesn't necessarily create more clarity.

Sometimes it can create more doubt...

Because most important decisions in life don't come with complete certainty.

You can gather information.
You can consider the risks.
You can listen to different perspectives.
You can give yourself time to think.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆...
𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

And I've learned that this is where self-trust becomes so important.

𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

It's trusting yourself enough to make the best decision you can with what you know and feel right now.

And knowing that if things don't unfold exactly as you expect... you'll learn, you'll adjust, you'll change direction if necessary, and you'll handle whatever comes next.

So... gather information and listen to other perspectives. Consider what they bring up for you. But don't let all those different perspectives make you lose connection with your own.

Because other people can help you see the situation differently.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.

Sometimes the next decision doesn't require more certainty.

𝗜𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳.

What decision have you been thinking about lately?

If you recognize yourself in this and want to become more confident in trusting yourself and the decisions you make, feel free to reach out.

How many times have you said "it's fine"... when it actually wasn't?

Someone keeps doing something that bothers you. Maybe it's your partner, a family member, a friend, your manager, or a colleague. You don't say anything because you don't want to create tension. You don't want to disappoint them. You don't want to seem difficult...

So you let it go.

Then you let it go again... And again...
But you're not really letting it go...
You're carrying it...

The frustration builds...
You start feeling resentful... You become irritated by things that normally wouldn't bother you.

And eventually... you either distance yourself,
shut down, or have a strong emotional outburst... just because you've reached your limit.

I've learned that sometimes what we call "keeping the peace" is actually just avoiding a conversation that needs to happen. Because keeping the peace around you while creating conflict within yourself isn't really peace, right?

Sometimes self-leadership means having the conversation you've been avoiding.

Not aggressively... Not blaming the other person... Not waiting until you've reached your breaking point... But simply being honest about what you're experiencing and what you need.

It could sound as simple as:
"I want to be honest about something that's been bothering me. I'd rather talk about it now than allow it to build up."

Or

"I know I've been saying yes to this, but I've realized it's becoming too much for me. I need to set a boundary here."

Will everyone like it?

Probably not.

But the goal of communicating a boundary isn't to make sure everyone is happy with it. It's being able to communicate what you need respectfully without abandoning yourself in the process.

And the outcome?

Less resentment, clearer communication, healthier relationships, more self-respect, and fewer conversations that happen only after you've reached your limit.

Sometimes the conversation you're avoiding...
is the conversation that could give you your peace back.

So... what conversation have you been avoiding?

If you recognize yourself in this and want to become more confident in expressing what you think, feel, and need, feel free to reach out.

Trust where life is taking you.

There's more unfolding than you can see right now.

So... let it unfold.

13/08/2026

What do you actually do when you're triggered in the moment?

Yesterday I shared how our emotions can be messengers.

It's one thing to understand your emotions.
It's a whole other thing to know what to do when emotions are running high.

Because the real test of emotional intelligence often happens in the few seconds after someone triggers you.

Maybe it's your partner, a family member, your manager, a colleague, or even a friend.

You feel the frustration rising...
Your first instinct might be to defend yourself, prove your point, raise your voice, shut down, or say something you'll regret later.

But instead...

You pause... you take a deep breath... and you give yourself a moment to regulate...

You notice the frustration and ask yourself:
"Why did that affect me so much?"

Maybe you feel misunderstood.
Maybe you feel disrespected.
Maybe a boundary was crossed.
Or maybe it touched something deeper within you.

Instead of immediately reacting from the emotion, you give yourself a moment to understand it.

And because of that pause... you respond differently than you would have just seconds earlier.

The situation didn't change.
But the way you showed up in it did.

That's emotional intelligence in everyday life.

Not suppressing what you feel.
Not pretending you're unaffected.

But creating enough space between the emotion and your response to consciously choose what you do next.

And the outcome?

Fewer things said in the heat of the moment.
Clearer communication.
Healthier boundaries.
Less unnecessary conflict.
And more trust in your ability to handle difficult situations.

That's self-leadership in practice.

You may not always choose what triggers you.

But you can learn to choose what you do next.

12/08/2026

Did you know your emotions are messengers?

There was a time when I didn't really know how to deal with mine. Because the truth is, most of us were never really taught what to do with our emotions, right?

When we experience pleasant emotions like peace, joy, and excitement, we usually just enjoy them.

But when frustration, anxiety, sadness, or anger show up, our first instinct is often to push them away, distract ourselves, or try to "get over it."

Through learning about emotional intelligence,
I came to understand something very important:

My emotions, especially the unpleasant ones, weren't the problem. They were often trying to tell me something.

Frustration was often showing me where I wasn't honoring myself.
Anxiety was sometimes revealing where I needed more trust in myself, in a situation, or in life.
Sadness was reminding me that something mattered deeply to me and needed space to be felt.

And anger...

Anger was often showing me where a boundary had been crossed, where something felt unfair, or where I had stayed silent when I needed to speak up.

The real challenge wasn't that I was feeling these emotions. It was that I wasn't listening to them.

Instead of understanding what I was feeling, I would push them away, distract myself, overthink them, or try to stay busy.

But emotions don't simply disappear because we ignore them.
Sometimes they stay beneath the surface.
Sometimes they show up in different ways.
And sometimes they come back louder.

What I've learned is that emotional intelligence isn't about controlling or suppressing your emotions.

It's about becoming aware of them, getting curious about what might be underneath them, and choosing how you want to respond.

Because an emotion can carry a message without having to control your behavior.

You can feel angry without reacting in anger.
You can feel anxious without allowing fear to make the decision for you.
You can feel sad without needing to immediately make the sadness disappear.

You can feel an emotion, listen to it, and still consciously choose your response.

And interestingly, what I once had to learn for myself has now become something I help others with too: understanding what’s happening within them, so they can respond to life with more awareness and intention.

Sometimes, the emotion you're trying hardest to get rid of is actually pointing you toward something important.

So maybe the question isn't:
"How do I stop feeling this?"

Maybe the better question is:
"What is this emotion trying to tell me?"

That single question has helped me understand myself in ways I never expected.

What emotion has been asking for your attention lately?
