I first learned about Forest Bathing and the invisible compounds called phytoncides that trees constantly release into the environment. Since then, I have found myself naturally drawn to spending time in the jungle and among greenery rather than in the city. Hiking and trail running became a natural extension of that love for nature.
I also train using nasal breathing and find that one of the best recovery methods after a hard run is the Wim Hof Breathing Method.
โNasal breathing directly stimulates the olfactory bulb, actively driving electrical oscillations in the amygdala and hippocampus. This enhances memory retrieval, emotional processing, and cognitive focus in ways that mouth breathing cannot. The nose also naturally filters air and boosts oxygen uptake, which expands blood vessels and increases blood oxygen absorption.โ

I joined XTrailblazers and was introduced to weekend hiking trips to the mountains of Malaysia. I appreciated the effort that Jason put into organizing and communicating all the trip details, which made the experience enjoyable and accessible for everyone.
Over time, the group developed and now has its current name and logo. What started as a simple idea to organize hiking trips gradually evolved into what RSH is known for today. As the community grew, many members found their own ways of giving back by contributing their time, skills, and support to help make each trip successful.

RSH provides opportunities for me to spend extended periods outdoors, often hiking for more than five hours at a time. The trips also allow me to explore hills and mountains that I have never visited before, which keeps my training interesting while helping me build endurance and resilience.

One of my most memorable moments was enjoying the refreshing waterfall shower at Kolam Air Putih after completing the Mount Ophir hike on 26 May 2024. Another unforgettable experience was participating in the Trans Jerjing route on 5 April 2025, a challenging and rewarding traverse that has since been discontinued.

A useful rule of thumb in exercise science and long-term athletic development is to think in terms of a three-year cycle. Meaningful adaptation takes time, and lasting progress is usually measured in years rather than weeks or months.
Be patient with yourself and be kind to others. Every person starts from a different place. Some athletes may achieve podium finishes or complete 100-mile races relatively quickly, while others may need years of consistent training to reach the same milestones. Neither path is better than the other. What matters most is showing up consistently, staying healthy, and continuing to enjoy the journey.

Hello! I am Charmaine, a hiker who just started to explore trail running, or more accurately, attempting to move faster on the trails.
It all started when a friend came across RSHโs post about a one day trip to Gunung Lambak in 2024, and invited me along. I was hesitant about joining at first. Trail running sounded intimidating, and I wasnโt sure I could keep up. However, there was an option for hikers as well, so I decided to go for it. The trip turned out to be really fun, and everyone was so welcoming!
I have no fitness goals, my only goal is to have fun HAHA. RSH organises weekend trips to Malaysia at least once a month, and arranges for group transport (and accommodation) for a lot of Malaysian races. This makes exploring trails in Malaysia, and attending trail races in Malaysia so much easier. You only just have to show up, and Jason, Chai, Huichun, JT will take care of everything else.
The weekend trips to Malaysia are also a nice way to spend the weekend, before the work week starts again. Good for your lungs, good for your soul.

In April this year, I joined RSH on a trip to Gunung Lambak. We went to a durian plantation in Kluang after the hike / run. It was my first time having durians right in the middle of the plantation, using plastic crates as a table.
The experienced trail runners that I was with during that trip also inspired me to sign up for my first trail race ever, the Trans Mount Lambak Trail (TMLT).

I am definitely under qualified to give any advice HAHA. But if I had to say one thing: just take baby steps and enjoy the process.
