NUS Dive is the official student body within the National University of Singapore for all recreation

We aim to expose as many students to the wonders of the underwater realm by organising scuba diving courses regularly. Apart from courses, we also organise trips to more exotic locations for certified divers, including Phuket, Bali, and the Perhentian islands. We also organise an annual conservation trip to assist in reef clean ups and raise awareness of reef conservation.

Say Hi to the Blue-spotted Fantail Ray – the ocean’s glittery pancake! 🌊🥞

This stunning little stingray is often spotted gliding over sandy areas and coral rubble near our reefs 🪸 . With a rounded snout, bright blue spots, and a long, broad tail with two striking blue stripes, it’s hard to miss. 🔵
These rays forage in shallow waters at high tide for snails, clams, worms, shrimp, and crabs, then shelter under ledges as the tide falls. Mostly nocturnal, they’re shy but graceful bottom-dwellers. ☺️Their venomous tail spine is a perfect defense, and their bright blue spots make them one of the most dazzling rays on our reefs!✨
Sadly today, they face threats from overfishing, habitat loss, and the aquarium trade, making them near threatened.🎣

Fun fact: Blue-Spotted Fantail Ray babies are adorably called pups!

🌊 Dive Spotlight: Southwest Pinnacle, Koh Tao 🌊

In light of our upcoming trip to Koh Tao, let’s shine the spotlight on one of its most renowned dive sites — Southwest Pinnacle! 🔦

🧭 Located about 50 minutes southwest of Koh Tao
🪨 Formed by stunning granite rock pinnacles
🌊 Depth ranges from 6m to 30m, with an average dive depth of 20m — making it suitable for advanced divers

This dive site is a visual feast, featuring thick carpets of anemones blanketing the pinnacle top and vibrant marine life all around. Expect to encounter schools of Snappers, Groupers, Trevally, Rabbitfish, Fusiliers, and both Yellowtail and Chevron Barracuda.
Beware of the feisty Titan Triggerfish 😤 and if you’re lucky, you might even spot our favourite ocean giant, the Whale Shark! 🌟

The pinnacle’s crevices and nooks shelter a world of macro life — from Durban Dancing Shrimp and Boxing Shrimp to tiny Crabs, Scorpionfish, and Nudibranchs — making it a dream dive site for macro enthusiasts and underwater photographers alike. 📸

Safe to say, a treat awaits every diver at Southwest Pinnacle.
Join us on our Koh Tao trip and experience the magic for yourself! 🤿🪄
