In March 2026, I skated the 120km-long chain of islands on the Toyama National Cycling Route, covering the coastal towns of Himi, Imizu, Namerikawa, Uozu, Unazakionsen, Nyuzen and Asahi.
Over six days, it was literally longboarding heaven, taking in the sights of Amarahashi Beach, Shinminato Uchikawa (Venice of Japan), Uozu Buried Forest Museum, Hisui (Jade Beach), Unazakionsen and the Hida mountain range along the way.
My only regret was that I didn’t visit in season, missing Kurobe Gorge, Tateyama, firefly squid season and Shinkiro Mirage in all their glory.
