SB20 Singapore

Day 2 of the 27th Western Circuit Sailing Regatta delivered the tight racing the SB20 fleet is known for, shaking up the leaderboard. Teams were more aggressive on the start line as the fight for the championship intensified, resulting in four UFDs on Day 2 - one each for Relájate in Race 5, Tara and NTU’s NUT in Race 6, and Another Incident in Race 8. Speaking of NUT, it was the team's first time sailing together and also their first big regatta - we hope to see more of them on the water!

Sinbad staged a huge comeback on Day 2, taking the top spot in the second day’s tally with 12 points - a bullet, a third place and two fourth places for races 5, 6, 7, and 8, respectively, securing a fourth place overall (29 points nett) after an eighth-place performance on Day 1.

Sea U Later also surged to second on Day 2 with 16 points - scoring 7 points, 4 points, 3 points and 2 points, respectively, for the last four races of the regatta. The team was in fourth place on Day 1, and its Day 2 performance resulted in an overall third place for the regatta (28 points nett, edging out the fourth-place finisher by one point) - the first podium for Sea U Later! A fitting farewell regatta for her skipper/owner Sebastian Zilm, who returns to Germany later this year.

Tara was in third place on Day 2 with 17 points, a 12-point UFD in race 6 setting her back in an otherwise strong performance of two second places and a bullet in races 5, 7, and 8 respectively. With her first-place performance on Day 1, this was however enough to secure her position as the SB20 champion of the regatta, with 22 points nett overall - a hard-fought win for the team after the Day 2 UFD and technical issues which forced her to miss the first race on Day 1.

The Dean’s List, comprising a mixed NUS-NTU crew, was in fourth place on Day 2 with 19 points, scoring 4 points, 6 points, 6 points, and 3 points in the last four races. However, her strong second-place performance on Day 1, secured the overall second place for the team with 24 points nett. Incidentally, based on the team’s performance at the 2026 RSYC Bicentennial Regatta earlier this month, The Dean’s List has been selected as Singapore’s representative to the World University Championship Sailing in Croatia next month. We look forward to cheering for the team in September!

Another Incident skippered by Freddie Hall delivered two bullets in Races 6 and 7 on Day 2, but a UFD in Race 8 kept the team from taking the top spot on Day 2. The team came in fifth in Race 5, for a total of 19 points on Day 2, tied in points with The Dean’s List. The heat had forced Another Incident's retirement after the first race on Day 1 (skippered by owner Daire O'Reilly with Freddie and Jon O'Dowd as crew); kudos to Freddie for pulling together a crew for Day 2 at the last minute the night before, comprising his nephew Oliver Hall and SB20 veteran Robert Jessing.

A big thank you to SMU and Raffles Marina, International Race Officer Jonathan Kwek and his race management team, and all volunteers, for an amazing race weekend!

Also, a very special shoutout to Ong Shean Boon, Senior Marina Manager, Raffles Marina, for his many years of support to the SB20 fleet. This 27th Western Circuit was his last regatta. We wish him fair winds and following seas!

Ten SB20s battled it out for the top spots at the 27th SMU-RM Western Circuit Sailing Regatta at Raffles Marina today. Well done to all teams for fighting it out in the blistering heat and in some shifty winds. The weather claimed its first victim with Team Another Incident retiring after the first race due to the scorching heat.

Team Tara came out on top with 5 points (two bullets and a third place) despite having missed the first race due to technical issues, followed by Team The Dean’s List comprising a mixed-university team from NUS and NTU with 6 points (three second places). Team Relájate was third with 8 points (a bullet, a second and fifth place).

Great effort from Team Sea U Later and Team Pocapena in 4th and 5th places respectively, with 12 points each.

Incidentally, Team The Dean’s List chose their name as they are all aiming high being university students from NUS and NTU.

Congratulations to all four SB20 teams who took part in the recently concluded of Singapore Yacht Club RSYC Bicentennial Regatta 2026!

After nine races and three days of racing, it was a very close race for first place with Team Relajáte and Team LumiNUS tied on points in the final count, but it was Relajáte clinching the top spot with its bullet in the last race. Both teams scored 17 points each across nine races and 14 points each in the best eight of nine races.

Team LumiNUS comprised crew from NUS Sailing Varsity Team and Sailing Club.

NUS' Team Purple Patch was in third place, 3 points behind with 17 points in best-eight-of-nine scoring.

Great effort from NUS Team Pocapena with a first-time helm and two first-time regatta participants.

Relájate was awarded the beautiful 1934 Royal Singapore Yacht Club Sailing Committee Challenge Cup. 🏆

Glasgow Kiss is still in first place after nine races and three days of racing at the SB20 Grand Slam, North Sails Cowes Week Bicentenary Regatta 2026! 🇸🇬

We are so very proud of Team Glasgow Kiss and Team The Incident for placing second and fourth, respectively, at the recently concluded riderovika Rovika SB20 Open UK Nationals 2026 at the royallondonyachtclub Royal London Yacht Club in Cowes, Isle of Wight. Both teams were flying the Singapore flag. 🇸🇬

Nils Razmilovic, together with David Salembier and Marcus Tressler, on Glasgow Kiss scored a bullet, five second places and two third places over eight races. With one discard, this put them solidly in second place overall.

It was Daire O’Reilly’s The Incident’s first time in Cowes. Together with Arran Holman and Alex Hughes, they took overall fourth place in their maiden outing in Cowes, just two points shy of the third place.

Well done, Glasgow Kiss and The Incident! 💪🏻💪🏻

Four SB20s took part in the first weekend of racing at the RSYC Bicentennial Regatta 2026. With six races completed, best of five scoring had Purple Patch, Relájate, and LumiNUS in first, second, and third places, respectively, with only one point separating each position from the next. Pocapena completed the quartet.

With another three races scheduled for this coming Saturday 1 August, there is still plenty to fight for! Who will come out on top?

NUS Sailing Varsity Team

The Squall Cup this past weekend saw six boats on the water, and a very good showing from our university teams.

Special thanks to Jonathan and the race committee team for executing the race management and course setting excellently.

The breeze was mid range and extremely shifty with the wind direction coming off the shore. Racing was tight amongst the fleet which was how we like it!

The cup came down to the last race between LumiNUS and Another Incident with LumiNUS strategically getting the shifts right off the start line and protected the victory excellently through the final race to take the victory.

The RSYC Regatta (25-26 July & 1 August) Republic of Singapore Yacht Club and the SMU-RM Western Circuit Sailing Regatta (15-16 August) SMU - RM Western Circuit Sailing Regatta are the next big events with a healthy entry list already.

The SB20 trophy for the RSYC is the oldest trophy in Singapore which is matched by an impressive Western Circuit trophy - all to play for!
