🚨Closure of Downtown line on Saturday mornings 🚨
The downtown line will open late at 8:30am from 11th July to 5th September. This means that you cannot take the MRT to Bedok North in order to arrive at parkrun by 7:20am. You can still take the train back after the event.
Alternatives:
- If you are a tourist, take a taxi. Navigate to Block 740 Bedok Reservoir Road. This is the nearest carpark to the starting point.
- Public Buses that arrive at block 713 or block 745 are also an option.
- Shuttle service 41 will operate as the MRT replacement between MacPherson and expo. This is an option if you live in the east.
If it is more convenient, feel free to visit one of the other parkrun events in Singapore – they would love to have you!
Sorry for not alerting everyone about this earlier, we understand that some of you had to miss last weekend's parkrun as a result.

Event 86 Report from Joan!
Thanks for visiting! Hopefully we will see you again!
------
It’s parkrun day! I’m in Singapore for a 10-day visit from the UK. It wasn’t planned, but the airfare was too good to resist, and it just so happened to coincide with two parkrun touring opportunities. Yay!
I decided to visit Bedok Reservoir parkrun first. What could be more beautiful than running around a man-made lake? From the photos I’d seen, it looked quite shady too. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding.
I left at 6:00am to jog the four miles from my hostel on Joo Chiat Road. Although I arrived already soaked in sweat, I was greeted by the beautiful sight of an impending sunrise and a native monitor lizard crossing the very path we were about to run. A wonderful welcome to Singapore!
After introducing myself to Run Director Pranav and taking a few photos, it wasn’t long before the first-timers’ welcome and the Run Director’s briefing were over, and we were off.
The course is one large loop of around 4.5km before an out-and-back section completes the full 5km. I made a conscious effort to maintain a sustainable pace, mindful of the hot and humid conditions. We had been reminded that this is not a race.
However, when I spotted what I thought was the finish in the distance, I couldn’t resist picking up the pace and running almost flat out. Unfortunately, I started my sprint a little too early! There was still the out-and-back section to complete. The wonderful marshal, Renee, was there to direct us, although in my heat-induced delirium I nearly missed her signal! Once I realised my mistake, I turned around, but by then I’d spent most of my energy and was moving much more slowly. Thankfully, I still managed a brief sprint as I entered the finish funnel.
The post-parkrun drinks and chat provided a lovely end to yet another wonderful parkrun experience.
So, was it a shady course? Not really. Even where there is shade, the Singapore heat and humidity make this a challenging run. And, as it turned out, the surface was more gravel than tarmac. It’s certainly not the place to come chasing a PB. Even so, congratulations to the six finishers who managed an event PB today!
Today’s results:
* 56 finishers, including four who also volunteered.
* Fastest finisher: 21:01.
* To the eight people completing their very first parkrun: may this be the first of many!
* A huge thank you to the 11 hi-vis heroes who volunteered to make the event safe, welcoming and enjoyable. There are always opportunities to volunteer, so please do get in touch if you’d like to help.
Yours,
Joan Martin (UK)
