Implementing ERAS® is not always easy. But the impact makes it worth it.
As Dr. Manuel Rosete (Hospitais da Universidade de Coimbra) puts it:
“𝐼𝑡 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑏𝑒 𝑎 𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑏𝑖𝑔 𝑗𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑦, 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑎 𝑙𝑜𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑛𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑜𝑎𝑑.
𝐵𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑝𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑝𝑎𝑠𝑠 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑜𝑏𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑐𝑙𝑒.”
That’s the reality of ERAS®.
It requires change. It requires alignment. It takes time.
But hospitals that commit see measurable results:
• Fewer complications
• Faster recovery
• More efficient use of resources
The real challenge, though, is knowing whether ERAS® was actually delivered — consistently, across teams, and over time.
Most hospitals believe they are doing ERAS®. Few can actually measure it.
Encare ERAS
Encare enhances ERAS® and thereby contributes to saved lives, improved quality of care and more efficient healthcare spend.
We're proud to share that Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, one of Germany's most prestigious university hospitals, has achieved ERAS® Qualification in Gynecology at the Department of Gynecology with Center for Oncologic Surgery at Campus Virchow Klinikum (CVK). The protocol brings structured enhanced recovery, including prehabilitation ahead of surgery, to women undergoing complex gynecologic surgery, including ovarian cancer patients.
The team, led by Dr. Marlene Lee and Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. Jalid Sehouli, focused on patient-centered outcomes — doubling first-day postoperative mobilization rates and cutting length of stay by four days, marking a meaningful improvement in perioperative care for patients.
This is what progress in women's health looks like.

At the 12th ERAS® World Congress in Singapore, ERAS® coordinators from St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne and Eastern Health did something simple and valuable: they opened their ERAS® Essentials data in the same room and compared it together, live.
No slides. Just an honest conversation about what the numbers showed, what was working, and what had been hard. Practical tips and lessons that only exist inside teams doing this work every day.
If your team is measuring perioperative care but not yet learning from peers doing the same work, that is worth thinking about.

The ERAS® Centers Meeting at the ERAS® World Congress 2026 in Singapore was one of those sessions that stays with you.
Two hospitals received their ERAS® Qualified Center certificates, both firsts for their countries: Gleneagles Hospital Johor in Malaysia and Mayapada Hospital Surabaya in Indonesia. 🎉
The rest of the session was spent exactly as it should be: implementation teams from around the world sharing what they have learned, what has been hard, and what has made the difference.
Different countries, different settings, same commitment to getting perioperative care right.
If you are running an ERAS® program, or thinking about starting one, this is the community you want to be part of. The people in that room are solving the same problems you are.
We hope to see more of you there next time in the next ERAS® World Congress.

Geramie Nigosa, Nurse at Kaiser Permanente, at the ERAS® World Congress 2026.

Clinical teams work best in the language they know. EIAS does too.
ERAS® Interactive Audit System (EIAS) is now available in German, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. Data entry, compliance dashboards, reporting, and support — all in the language your team uses every day.
If language was ever a reason to pause, it isn't anymore.

A new paper from the ERAS® Society founders, published in World Journal of Surgery, highlights something important: most hospitals that say they “do ERAS®” are not delivering its full benefits.
The reason is not intent. It is measurement. Without continuous audit, teams cannot know how consistently ERAS® is being followed, patient by patient.
The ERAS® Interactive Audit System (EIAS) was designed specifically to close that gap.
Worth a read for anyone involved in perioperative care.
