Winter came quite early with snow and almost down to -30 some days. But now in December there has been + degrees and rain coming and going. So it’s been more difficult and more searching for the birds. But we have seen birds almost every day and packed a few in the bags also. Moose and reindeer have been plenty to see while skiing the forest. Now hoping for som new snow and temperatures on the downside of 0 for the rest of the winter.

Mounted a ”first roebuck” for a lucky hunter.

There is a hell of a lot of northern lights going off in the sky every night now. Up here we are so used to it that you don’t stop to look if it’s not a very very big one.
But this photo was from 2 weeks ago when i was out looking and listening after one of our dogs that disappeared in the middle of nowhere and was lost without a trace. I was kind of thinking maybe the lights show me where to look.The mind starts to think a bit different when you are worried and don’t know what to do. I had a plan to search every creek and lake to get a closure if she had gone through the thin ice. But luckily she was found in the direct direction of the light 22 hours after she went missing. just after i said to my wife all i want now is to come around the bend and see her dark body standing on the road. after the second bend she stood in front of another car that stoped for her🙏

Beautiful day -3 and a thin layer of snow. Found a few packs of blackgrouse. BUT they were impossible to get within range. from thick forest 300 m away one step wrong and they were gone multiple times. So i gave up when the sun sank underneath the tree line. But i found a last group sitting 500 m away in the wrong direction and i had to give it a try. carefully crawling through water i was about to take the shot when the young dog appeared in front of the barrel spooked all the birds except one. but for 2 minutes me and the dog had a struggle to get her out of the way while the bird sitting with a stretched neck ready to take off any second. but eventually i pulled the trigger from a poor shooting position at 150 m. heard the bullet hitting its target so everything was good and one of the dogs could fetch in the bird for me. A nice yearling with some brown feathers still on its head.

Moral of the story! youthful stupidity can cost you dearly

When the weather is against you with hard winds, + degrees, no snow in the trees and worst skiing conditions thinkable, resulting in broken skis and tired bodies. we at least saw them the capercaillies. but sitting on the ground hiding or flying like the one on the picture. Tomorrow is a yellow varning for winds up to 25m/sek. thinking of packing and leaving the forest.
