Congrats to Robert Andersson after a big weekend achievement!

Robert had his single-engine IR, and he wanted to turn that into an ME IR.

After getting the multi-engine class rating a couple weeks back, he did both his SE IR to ME IR conversion training and skill test in a single weeked. If that sounds like it might be a lot to tackle in a short time, Robert assured me that it was!

When we spoke, Robert said he appreciated that Kungsair was so accomodating of his needs.

Congrats again to Robert, and happy flying!

Robots might be great for mowing lawns.

But when it comes to flying, there will always be a need for real, honest-to-goodness pilots.

Because the real world isn’t as predictable as a computer program.

Nils S. is a fighter pilot and instructor in the Swedish Air Force. He's also the display pilot in the SK 60.

Nils has done his ME IR, IRI, and MCC training at Kungsair.

When we spoke, Nils said that his concern before starting training was that Kungsair was a small school with a lot of different courses. He likened it to seeing a restaurant with a menu that looked a little too broad and ambitious.

Nils now says that he's changed his mind. He says the training was personalized to help him in his particular situation. He also appreciated the professionalism, safety, and relatively quiet airspace around Borlänge for helping make the training as effective as possible.

When it comes to flying, he said that he loves flying older aircraft. While he loves the Gripen for flying a sortie, he says the SK 60 gives him the hands-on feel of flying that he loves. He also appreciated flying the classic Piper Aztec for ME IR training for the same reason. It was hands-on. He said, "Sometimes, the easiest way isn't the best way."

Meet "Captain Gus."

Kent Gustavsson is from the Stockholm area. He started flying at the age of 20. He spent 24 years in the Swedish Air Force Reserves.

As a civilian pilot, he’s flown a wide range of aircraft.

At Swedair, he flew the Twin Otter and Fairchild F27.

Then he flew the Caravelle for Transwede.

After that, he flew the Fokker 28 (F28) for Linjeflyg.

At SAS, he flew the F28, Boeing 737 (Captain), B767, DC-9, MD-80, and Airbus A330/340/350 (Captain).

He was SAS Chief Base Captain in Stockholm and Long Haul Chief pilot on the Airbus fleet. He was also an instructor on the 737 and all the "big busses".

In this photo, he's 8 months retired and just passed his Assessment of Competence as a Single Engine Piston Class Rating Instructor (SE CRI).

He loved his professional aviation life and colleagues, and he's happy to take an active role in Swedish General Aviation. When you love aviation as much as he does, it's hard to stay retired!

Captain Gus is a pleasure to talk to, and we're lucky to have him in the General Aviation community!
