When you look at the below video many will see the physical and technical improvements. As a father and a coach of my daughter Ava I have seen far more than that. The main factors of her improvements are down to a gradual increase in MOTIVATION over the past 12 months. Ava in March 2020 was not interested in training, very little engagement in lessons and never watched tennis. The video on the left was just after lockdown where once developed core skills through the EKT challenge tour now felt more confident to train. Ava now demonstrates intrinsic motivation and willingness to sacrifice more time to tennis. Ava Is driven by competition and now watches some tennis. My philosophy is based around competence/autonomy and purpose which is consistent with the EKT learning model of motivation/capacity and opportunity. Is motivation a part of your coaching learning model? Do you have anything in place to measure this?
