Saxon Trek

You know we love the Saxon villages from Transylvania. We walked for hundreds of kilometers between Sibiu and Sighisoara, from a village to another, through forests, meadows, over the Transylvanian highlands, but this was the first time we did this while while trail running.
End of last June, My Transylvania organzied for the first time the Heritage Run, a charitable event aimed at protecting the local heritage.
We run the 22 km race, starting from Biertan fortified church to Richiș fortified church and back. The trail had +625 m level diffence and it followed Via Transilvanica path and returned on a Transylvanian Highlands path.
We totally enjoyed this new experience.

Peaceful stay in Biertan with old friends at Casa Eva Wagner and we were lucky enough to catch also the Christmas market.
Good to be again on Colinele Transilvaniei.

Our small Saxon Trek project got to its third year of existence in 2021. With some changes this time, it was way shorter (a weekend instead of a week) and we managed to convince friends to join us. Beginning of October, with pleasant temperatures, with trees playing with their autumn colors and with the usual Saxon villages and their stories, we walked for about 40 kilometers in two days, avoiding concrete roads but instead following small roads and forest paths.

Finally, our favorite time of the year has arrived!
2021 Saxon Trek is about to start.
This time in a short version just for a weekend. We will rediscover the Saxon villages, step by step, walking from village to village, through forests and over green pastures and hills.
We will walk 45 km on trails marked by Colinele Transilvaniei and Via Transilvanica, but also on unmarked paths, used by villagers and animals for hundreds of years.

It's a lengthy read about a long walk from Sibiu to Sighișoara.

This was the route of Saxon Trek 2020. 110 Km from Sibiu to Sighișoara, via Hosman, Alțâna, Apoș, Mălâncrav, Stejărenii and 9 other villages.
This year we plan to trek also from Sibiu to Sighișoara, but following a different, longer route. 170 Km and 18 new villages to discover.

Walking from village to village was for sure the main highlight of our Saxon Trek. But getting to these beautiful guesthouses in the evening and being welcomed by a local who took the time to cook delicious dinners for us with local ingredients, was for sure a delight!🏡🙏
