Against the Tide, Together

The 2026 Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, held on 27–28 June at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, was more than a race for Onslaught Racing Dragons Qatar—it was a testament to resilience, unity, and commitment.

Despite the uncertainty and travel disruptions caused by the ongoing US–Israel–Iran conflict, our team remained determined. Every paddler honored their commitment, proving that adversity only strengthens those who choose to move forward together.

Built on diversity, our crew represents different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences, united by one goal. That spirit carried us to the Semi-Finals of both the International Open and International Mixed categories, a remarkable achievement against some of the world's strongest dragon boat teams.

Our sincere thanks go to President Ben Gaskell, VP External Affairs Jeffrey Tacuban, and VP Internal Affairs Nazar Salim, whose unwavering leadership kept the team together and ensured every detail was taken care of. Their dedication kept morale high despite the challenges.

To Coach Alexander Tubar, thank you for continuously raising our standards by exposing us to world-class competition and teaching us that dragon boating is about more than racing—it's about building friendships and strengthening the global paddling community.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Lalaine Advincula, whose exceptional work as Team Manager handled countless logistics, allowing the paddlers and officers to focus solely on performing their best.

To our drummer, Ms. Veronica Lalata, thank you for always answering the call. No matter how last-minute, you continually made time for the team, keeping us united in rhythm and spirit.

To Mr. Christopher Odukwe, thank you for supporting us as our team photographer. While we were focused on racing, you captured the moments we couldn't, preserving memories that will inspire us for years to come.

Finally, to every paddler who committed to this journey: your sacrifices earned far more than race results. You gained invaluable experience, lifelong friendships, and a deeper appreciation of the global dragon boat community.
