Your time in Porto is limited. Make the first few hours count.

That’s the idea behind our Porto Beginner’s Guide Tour. Think of it less as a traditional tour and more like spending a few hours with a friend who happens to know Porto really, really well.

Our tour guides won’t just point out the sights. They’ll give you the context that makes the city make sense.

You’ll start with Portugal, discover Porto’s place in the country’s story, learn how locals see their city… and, naturally, taste a few things along the way. But the best part might be the feeling of being welcomed into a Portuguese family home.

Come curious. Leave feeling a little more at home in Porto.

What happens when you join a Taste Porto Food Tour? 👀

You come for the food.
You stay for everything else.

Because a few hours with us means more than tasting Portuguese dishes. It means walking through Porto, hearing the stories behind the city, understanding its culture, discovering its architecture, and meeting the local people who bring it all to life.

And, of course, there’s plenty of food and great drinks involved. 🍷😋

For André, the people we work with are one of the best parts — the partners who open their doors, share their craft, and help us show you a more personal side of Porto.

Good food. Great stories. Even better people.

Sometimes exploring Porto means looking down at the calçada portuguesa. But on August 12, you’ll want to look up. ☀️ Because Porto isn't just giving you an eclipse. It's giving you a whole night under the stars.

Here’s what you need to know 👀

1. Can I see the eclipse from Porto?
Absolutely! Porto will see a spectacular partial solar eclipse, with around 98.2% of the Sun covered at maximum.

2. What time is it?
📍 Porto local time:
6:34 PM — Begins
7:32 PM — Maximum
8:25 PM — Ends

3. Do I need to travel to Bragança for totality?
Only if you want the full experience! Around Bragança and Montesinho Natural Park, the Sun will disappear completely for roughly 26 seconds around 7:30 PM.

4. Where can I watch it in Porto?
Choose somewhere with an open view towards the west. Try:
🌊 Foz do Douro
🌉 Jardim do Morro
🌅 Passeio das Virtudes
Expect them to be busier than usual!

5. Are eclipse glasses optional?
No! 😎 Never look directly at the Sun without certified eclipse glasses or proper solar protection. Regular sunglasses aren't enough.

Joining our Downtown & Bolhão Market Food Tour on August 12? We'll provide eclipse glasses. The tour runs from 4 PM to around 7:30 PM, so you can enjoy Porto's food and stories before catching the eclipse.

6. Should I change my Porto itinerary?
Not your whole trip! Just make August 12 a special evening. Explore Porto by day, find your viewing spot before 6:34 PM, then stay out after sunset. 🌌

7. Why is this eclipse such a big deal?
August 12, 2026 marks the first total solar eclipse visible from mainland Portugal since 1912. The next one won't cross mainland Portugal until 2144.

8. Are there really three astronomical events?
Yes! Within roughly 24 hours:
☀️ Solar eclipse — August 12 evening
🌠 Perseid meteor shower — overnight
🪐 Six-planet alignment — before dawn

And a New Moon means darker skies for the Perseids!

9. Can I see the Perseids from Porto?
Yes! But only after the sky is dark. For the best chance, escape city lights, let your eyes adjust, and look up. No telescope required. ✨

One day. Three celestial events. One unforgettable night in Porto. 💙

Save this for August 12 and get your eclipse glasses ready! 😎
