Your favourite yoga practice might not always be the practice that brings you into balance.

One of the things I love most about bringing Ayurveda and Yoga together is that the question begins to shift from:

What do I feel like doing?

to:

What do I actually need today?

Ayurveda understands everything through qualities.

Vata is light, mobile and changeable.
Pitta is hot, sharp and intense.
Kapha is slow, steady and heavy.

And one of Ayurveda’s simplest principles is:

Like increases like. Opposites bring balance.

So if Vata is already elevated, another fast, stimulating practice may not be what your nervous system needs.

If Pitta is running high, more heat, intensity and achievement may simply add fuel to the fire.

And if Kapha feels heavy or stagnant, staying in the comfort of stillness may reinforce that inertia.

This doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with having a favourite way to practise.

It simply invites us to notice the difference between preference and medicine.

Yoga becomes something very different when we stop practising purely from habit and begin asking what will genuinely support us today.

Before you step onto your mat, try asking yourself:

What qualities are present in me right now?
What would bring me towards balance?

That might mean slowing down.
Softening.
Getting stronger.
Moving more.
Or doing far less than you had planned.

This is where Ayurveda can bring an entirely new level of awareness to your Yoga practice.

Save this for the next time you’re deciding what kind of practice you need. 🤍

When so many parts and pieces of life are vibrantly unpredictable and uncertain, reach to the things within that are beyond all the chatter.

It’s that something bigger and it often takes getting wildly lost to find it.

We are all woven and wired in ways that are guaranteed to be unique and so we each have our own personal way to plug into the space beyond the noise.

Space beyond the noise, still contains the noise.
It’s the container.
And it’s the place that maybe we can also find ourselves being more than capable of holding and accepting all contrasting parts.

It’s the birds eye view.
The place that beams with the knowing that it’s okay.
The rememberer of the how to take things as they come and the comforter that is cozy even amongst the perceived chaos.

We don’t need to try to stay there forever.
To be human is to dip in and out and to learn from the squiggly paths along the way. To grow as human Beings is to remember it’s who we are ❣️

“If you’re brave enough, often enough, you will fall.” -Brene Brown

I love these words. They remind me to remember that all the falling I’ve done in my life, was probably part due to clumsy-ness, and part from being brave enough to step outside my zone of comfort.

One thing that brings me the greatest satisfaction, is seeing others move beyond what they think they are capable of. And in order to do this, there must be bravery, and there must be some falling. The two go hand in hand. So, when you think of times in your life where you “fell”, can you recognise simultaneously how brave you are/were?

We talk a lot about what we eat.

But Ayurveda asks us to pay attention to something much bigger: how well are we digesting everything we take in?

Because digestion isn’t only about food.

The conversation you keep replaying.
The disappointment you haven’t quite let go of.
The relationship that leaves you feeling depleted.
The endless stream of information, images and noise we consume every day.

In Ayurveda, Agni is our digestive fire — our capacity to digest not only our meals, but our experiences and everything we take in through the five senses.

When Agni is strong, we’re better able to process what life gives us. To take what is useful, learn from our experiences and let go of what we no longer need to carry.

Just as we can feel heavy after a meal we haven’t properly digested, we can carry the weight of experiences we haven’t fully processed.

So perhaps the question isn’t always what should I be eating?

Perhaps it’s also:

What am I still trying to digest?
What am I holding onto?
And what might I be ready to let go of?

Ayurveda gives us a beautiful way of understanding ourselves beyond food, doshas and routines. It teaches us to become more curious about the relationship between what we consume, what we experience and how we feel.

Knowing what supports you is one thing.

Actually choosing it can be another.

Especially when that choice feels unfamiliar, asks you to change an old pattern, or looks a little different from what everyone around you is doing.

Sometimes choosing yourself looks surprisingly simple 🌱

Going to bed earlier.
Cooking yourself something nourishing.
Stepping away from relationships that leave you depleted.
Speaking honestly.
Making time for the practices you know make you feel more like yourself.

None of these things are particularly complicated. But that doesn’t mean they’re always easy.

In Yoga, Svadhyaya — self-study or self-reflection — is the practice of becoming curious about ourselves. Paying attention to our choices, our patterns and their consequences without judgement.

What brings me closer to balance?
What takes me further away?
What do I already know I need, but keep choosing not to listen to?

This is something I come back to again and again.

Because the more we learn to observe ourselves, the easier it becomes to recognise what we need — and to make choices that feel more aligned with who we are and how we want to live.

Not through force.
Through awareness, curiosity and practice,

Yoga isn’t one-size-fits-all. And neither is the way I teach.

When I discovered Ayurveda, it became the missing piece in my Yoga practice. It taught me to look beyond the sequence itself and pay attention to what is happening around us — the season, the weather, the time of day and, most importantly, the people in front of me.

A Yoga class at midday in the height of summer shouldn’t necessarily feel the same as a 6am practice on a cool, foggy morning.
One might call for Sheetali pranayama, forward folds and longer holds to cool and ground. The other might need Kapalabhati, Surya Namaskar, backbends and a little more playfulness to warm and energise.

This is one of the things I love most about bringing Ayurveda and Yoga together: learning to observe the qualities present in nature, recognise those same qualities within ourselves, and adapt our practice accordingly.

No rigid formula. No one-size-fits-all approach.

Just Yoga that meets you where you are ❣️

🌱 This is how we practise on our Roam retreats — combining Yoga, Ayurveda and time in nature to help you reconnect with your own body, rhythms and intuition.

Our Story 🌿

Roam Retreats was created from a simple belief:

Every person has an innate capacity to heal.

Sometimes what we need isn’t another programme to follow or another expert telling us what to do. We need the time, space and guidance to slow down, reconnect with ourselves, and begin listening again.

At Roam, we bring together the wisdom of Ayurveda and Yoga with modern science to make wellbeing feel simple, practical and relevant for everyday life.

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we help you understand your own body and mind, so you can make choices with greater confidence, clarity and self-trust.

Whether you join us for a retreat, workshop or online course, our hope is simple: not to give you all the answers, but to help you become your own greatest guide.

✨ If this way of thinking resonates with you, we’d love to have you here. Follow along for practical Ayurveda, yoga and holistic wellbeing, or share this with someone who could use the reminder today.

Healing isn’t something that happens in a single moment. It’s something we cultivate through the small choices we make every day.

Whether you join us on retreat, spend a day at one of our workshops, explore an online course from home, or simply become part of our community, everything we create has the same intention: to help you reconnect with yourself and discover practical ways to support your wellbeing for life.

At Roam, we bring together the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda and Yoga with modern science, making these teachings simple, accessible and relevant for everyday living.

Wherever you are on your journey, we’d love to welcome you.

Did you know we have a WhatsApp community?

For over 3 years, every Monday we’ve shared a little moment of inspiration with our community. That’s more than 150 Monday’s Moments filled with books, podcasts, teachings, reflections and sparks of wisdom that have stopped us in our tracks and stayed with us long after we’d read them.

We created Monday’s Moments because we believe transformation doesn’t always come from doing more. Sometimes it begins by simply pausing.

Each week, we’ll send you something to read, watch or listen to. A gentle invitation to slow down, reflect and reconnect with yourself. Inspired by Ayurveda, Yoga, Mindfulness and conscious living, these are the ideas, teachers and conversations that continue to shape the way we live, practise and teach.

No overwhelm. Just one small thoughtful moment each week to nourish your mind, your heart and your nervous system.

If that sounds like something your week could use, we’d love to welcome you.

Comment MOMENT below and we’ll send you the link to join 🤍
