Making Education Feel Human Again

31/08/2026

Education is a people business.

But somewhere along the way, we’ve become very good at measuring people… and not always very good at seeing them.

That’s why I created Bora Education.

To put people and culture back at the heart of education.

Because when education feels more human, people perform better too.

What would make education feel more human to you?

Three months ago, this 12-year-old was starting to believe he wasn’t capable.

His confidence was dropping, it was beginning to affect his friendships and social interactions, and perhaps most importantly, it was changing the way he saw himself.

Over the past three months, we’ve worked together to shift that.

Rather than simply trying to make him “more confident”, our coaching has focused on helping him understand himself better, challenge some of the beliefs he had started to form about himself, and recognise that confidence isn’t something you either have or you don’t. It’s something you can build.

Every time you take action despite feeling nervous, do something you thought you couldn’t, or keep a commitment to yourself, you create a little more evidence of what you're capable of.

Over time, “I don’t think I can” starts to become “maybe I can.”

That’s the shift I’ve been most proud to see in him. Not just greater confidence, but a stronger belief in himself and a growing understanding that he has the ability to influence the person he becomes.

His dad, Graham, recently shared:

“Sam’s coaching and support over the past three months have made a world of difference. He has helped our son to develop greater confidence and a stronger belief in himself.”

For me, this is what coaching young people is really about. The goal isn’t to create a young person who feels confident all the time, because none of us do.

It’s to help them understand how to create confidence for themselves when they need it.

Culture is built in conversations.

An amazing couple of days in Germany with the team at 🇩🇪

Real conversations, deeper connections and the start of an exciting year together as the team begins their Bora Coach Training.

This is what making education human again looks like.

Culture is built in conversations.

Just back from Germany after an amazing day with the team at International School Westpfalz, delivering Conversations That Shape Culture.

We created space for teachers to connect beyond job titles, listen to understand, have deeper conversations and get clear on the culture they want to create together.

And this is just the beginning.

Throughout this year, the ISW team will complete their Bora Coach Training, developing their coaching skills and working towards accreditation — helping them better support themselves, each other and, most importantly, their students.

A massive thank you to the whole ISW team for the trust, openness and energy. A really special day. ❤️

I thought working with a company would feel completely different after spending 13 years in education.

It didn’t.

The environment changed. The work stayed the same.

Whether it’s a school or a business, people want the same things:

To be heard. To feel connected. To grow together.

Coaching, listening and empathy aren’t educational skills or corporate skills. They’re human skills.

Huge thanks to the team at Momentum Retreats for trusting me to help facilitate Penfold offsite, and to everyone at Penfold for bringing so much openness and energy.

One of the biggest reasons men struggle isn’t because they’re weak.

It’s because they’re trying to do life alone.

Every man needs a tribe.

A group that celebrates your wins, calls you out when you’re drifting, and reminds you of the man you’re capable of becoming.

That’s what makes this group so special.

Nobody is making money from it, no hidden agenda, no ego.

Just men investing in each other because we know we’re stronger together.

The conversations, the adventures, the accountability, the laughs... they change you.

If I could speak to 18-year-old me, I’d say this…

You don’t need to have everything figured out.

But at 18, I thought I did.

I was going to join the army, just like my dad. I had a plan and I loved the certainty that came with it.

Then life changed. An illness forced me onto a completely different path.

I became a teacher, later left the classroom, started a business, and discovered strengths I didn’t know I had.

Looking back, the moments that felt the most uncertain were often the moments shaping my direction.

That was the message I shared with the graduating class at United Lisbon International School.

You don’t build confidence by having all the answers.

You build it by taking the next step.

The future becomes clearer through action.

Congratulations, Class of 2026. The future is uncertain… and that’s okay.

Bora!

Therapy and coaching are not the same.

Both are valuable, but they serve different purposes.

Coaching is so powerful in schools.

It helps students and staff deal with what is happening right now, build confidence, strengthen relationships and move forward with intention.

Coaching doesn’t replace teaching, it makes education feel more human.

If you’re a school leader who wants to strengthen relationships, develop your people and transform your school culture, I’d love to have a conversation.

Send me a message or comment below.

Friday evening was special.

I had the honour of being the keynote speaker at the graduation ceremony for students at .

My talk was called “The Future is Uncertain… and That’s Okay.”

The message was simple: uncertainty isn’t something to fear. The future becomes clearer through action. You don’t build confidence by having all the answers, you build it by taking the next step, learning, adapting, and moving forward.

It was a privilege to speak to more than 300 students, families, and staff as they celebrated this milestone.

A huge congratulations to the 2026 graduates.
