𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹.

Sometimes the ocean reminds us that greatness is not measured by size alone.

Captured off 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝗔𝘇𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀, in 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟮, 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵, 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵 by 𝗡𝘂𝗻𝗼 𝗦𝗮́ portrays the world's largest fish surrounded by tiny pilot fish. It is a simple yet powerful composition that celebrates one of the ocean's most iconic encounters, revealing the harmony that exists between species of vastly different scales.

This extraordinary photograph became part of the 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 | 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮, the year the Collection was created. Since then, it has continued to grow into a unique visual archive where internationally acclaimed underwater photographers preserve not only remarkable images, but also the stories, places and emotions behind them.

One of Portugal's most celebrated underwater filmmakers and photographers, 𝗡𝘂𝗻𝗼 𝗦𝗮́ has spent decades documenting marine life for international broadcasters including National Geographic and the BBC. He joined the Collection in 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮, the same year he inspired the audience with a memorable presentation at 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 —available to watch on the 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗧𝘂𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹. Nuno also became the 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 | 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, helping shape its vision from the very beginning.

With 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵, 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵, Nuno reminds us that the ocean is a place of both grandeur and delicate balance, where every species, no matter its size, has a role to play.

Experience 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵, 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵 and many other extraordinary works at the inauguration of the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, on 𝟮𝟯 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿, at 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹, 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝗯𝗼𝗻.

Meet the photographers. Discover the stories behind their images. Explore one of the most important assets of the 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺.

The best way to understand what makes Diving Talks different is to hear it from those who have experienced it.

Through our Throwback Thursday series, past speakers share what they remember most—not just the presentations, but the people they met, the ideas they exchanged, and the atmosphere that makes Diving Talks unlike any other event in the underwater world.

Listen to their thoughts, watch their stories, and discover why so many people return to Lisbon year after year.

𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱.
𝗕𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝘁.

Diving Talks is more than a conference—it is a community united by a shared passion for the underwater world. Every conversation has the potential to spark a new idea, every introduction can become a lasting friendship, and every story has the power to inspire your next adventure. Whether you arrive as a first-time visitor or a returning participant, you'll leave with more than knowledge—you'll leave with connections, memories, and the feeling of belonging to a global community that shares your passion.

BEYOND THE TALKS | DISCOVERING PORTUGAL UNDERWATER — by Portugal Dive

“𝗘𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗖𝗨𝗕𝗔 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝟯𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗼.”

When someone with Phil Short's lifetime of diving experience says that about a destination, you know something special happened.

On 13 October 2025, Phil was in Terceira, in the Azores, joining his fellow Diving Talks Speakers for the pre-show trip before heading to Lisbon.

The dives left an impression. His words say the rest: “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘇𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹.”

Exactly one year earlier, on 13 October 2024, Jill Heinerth was exploring Porto Santo with us before Diving Talks 2024. Different islands, different people, different experiences — but the same idea behind these journeys.

Every year, Portugal Dive takes a selected group of Diving Talks Speakers beyond the conference and introduces them to another part of Portugal's extraordinary underwater world.

And now we're getting ready to do it again.

𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 → 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗮, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘇𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀.

We're pretty sure Phil wouldn't mind being on that plane with us again... 😉

Because once the Azores remind you why you fell in love with diving in the first place, one island is never enough.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

For more than six decades, 𝗡𝗔𝗨𝗜 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲 has helped shape scuba diving through education, leadership and an unwavering commitment to diver safety. Founded in 1960, NAUI has grown into a global community of instructors, dive centers and divers united by a principle that remains as relevant today as it was at the beginning: 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

That philosophy makes NAUI a natural supporter of Diving Talks.

Diving education is about much more than earning a certification. It is about developing knowledgeable, capable and responsible divers, encouraging lifelong learning, protecting the underwater environment, and creating a community in which experience and knowledge are shared. These are conversations that belong at Diving Talks.

By supporting Diving Talks 2026, NAUI is choosing to be close to the people who live and influence diving every day—from instructors and dive professionals to explorers, technical divers, scientists and passionate recreational divers. It is an opportunity not simply to present an organization, but to listen, exchange perspectives and participate in the discussions shaping where diving goes next.
