Melanie had this to say about her day:

“I was excited to participate in the first edition of borealys, the first race by utmb in québec, canada, right in my usual training playground! i felt like flying during most of the 80km and 3600 m d+, while the temperature was perfect and the trails beautiful! i was very happy and surprised to finish 4th woman in that race.”

“A few days before the race, I started having some health issues. My mind was full of questions: Should I stay, or should I go?

In moments like these, the support you have around you means everything. My coach Gediminas Grinius and my husband both encouraged me to listen to my body. And my body said, go.

I'm incredibly grateful to both of them.

At the starting line, I made one promise to myself: just have fun. And that's exactly what I did, all the way to the finish.

Throughout the race, I felt deeply grateful—to my body, to everyone cheering along the course, and to every runner I met on the trails. I was humbled by those small moments when we passed each other and exchanged a smile. We were all sharing the same experience, while each of us was also on our own unique journey.

The next morning, I woke up feeling great and ready to go again. It's amazing how quickly the limits in your mind can change. Suddenly, 50 km doesn't feel impossible anymore—it becomes just a number, just another beautiful day on the trails.

And finally, thank you to the entire trail running community. It is an honour to be part of such a supportive, inspiring, and welcoming family. With every run, we are not only exploring new trails—we are also exploring ourselves, becoming a more honest, stronger, and more authentic. ❤️”
