In Carcavelos this is how we roll 🚲 Get a "Bicas" public bike or scooter with app at any bike station (the closest to our apartments are at Rua de Luanda, at Riviera Hotel or at Carcavelos train station). You can even take them on some buses (check photo 8 and 9) and trains. Explore the bike paths! You can also ride on the street, on the right side - it's a vehicle like any other. Some people even ride up to Lisbon by the bike paths and the ocean road... 101782 people have used the Bicas bikes already, join them! Have fun! 🚲🌊☀️

Sometimes starfishes show up at the beach. How beautiful are they? If you see one please don't touch it, just watch - let's preserve wild life⭐🌊 📌Avencas Beach. When leaving our apartments, walk to the left and you'll find Parede Beach. If you continue towards Cascais (facing the ocean, turn right) you will find Praia das Avencas, which is the next beach. It owes its name to a plant - the Avenca - which grows here. This plant has a long tradition of medicinal use in Portugal. The beach has been classified a "Zone of Biophysical Interest" as a result of its ecological importance. You can walk on the wooden paths to read more about the living beings of this beach and to experience watching it yourself. Have you been here? 😊🏖️🌊

Fonte dos Ingleses, the British Fountain, is located at Carcavelos Beach and hosts a well with freshwater and a rounded water cistern. The oldest reference brings us to 1895, a military map, which refers to it as Fonte dos Ingleses, the British Fountain. The British troops built here the third line of the famous Lines of Torres and it was supposed to allow to embark for a potencial need of escaping the French troops in their invasion of 1810. It is believed that this well and water cistern were built back then for being the water supplier for the ships.

This is Praça do Junqueiro (square), located in front of Carcavelos beach. During the first Napoleonic invasion to Portugal (1807) the British troops came to help us against Junot and disembarked at Quinta do Junqueiro. Many years later, in 1958, Quinta do Junqueiro turned into a modern square - Praça do Junqueiro - that was sided by habitation buildings. Today this square is not only for habitation, it is the home of great restaurants and shops. This is in the same neighborhood of our apartments. Do you like this square?
