STOP CHASING THE BEST TEAM. START CHASING THE BEST DEVELOPMENT.

One of the biggest mistakes I see parents make is believing that being on the best roster automatically makes their son or daughter a better player.

It doesn’t.

If you’re the 8th, 9th, or 10th player off the bench, you’re not getting the one thing every athlete needs…

Meaningful game reps.

Skills training is only half the equation. The other half is having the opportunity to apply those skills in real game situations, make mistakes, adjust, and grow.

Here’s what I can’t make sense of…

How can a trainer truly develop a player if they’ve never watched them compete in a game?

You can’t fix what you haven’t seen.

At Big on Basics, every drill has a purpose because I know exactly what each athlete needs. I watch them compete. I evaluate them in live games. I meet with players and parents regularly. We identify strengths, expose weaknesses, and build a development plan that transfers to Friday night not just Instagram.

Development isn’t about collecting highlights.

It’s about building confidence through meaningful minutes, learning through mistakes, and playing for a coach who believes in your growth not just the scoreboard.

The goal isn’t to sit on an elite team.

The goal is to become an elite player.

Train. Play. Evaluate. Adjust. Repeat.

That’s how real development happens.
