Switzerland reached their first FIFA World Cup quarter-final since 1954 after defeating Colombia 4-3 in a penalty shootout following a goalless 120 minutes. Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel saved Cucho Hernandez’s penalty, while Davinson Sanchez hit the crossbar for Colombia.

Egypt forward Mostafa Zico accused the referee of “rigging” his side’s dramatic 3-2 FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 defeat to Argentina. Egypt had led 2-0 before Argentina completed a stunning comeback, with Enzo Fernandez scoring the stoppage-time winner.
Zico criticised the referee over several decisions, including a rejected penalty appeal involving Mohamed Salah, claiming the officiating changed the course of the match. He added that Egypt respected Argentina’s quality but felt the defeat would have been easier to accept had it come purely on Argentina’s own merits.
