ARTICLE | From his birthplace in Zamboanga City to the national football stage, young striker Aarran Thomas Dimapilis-Long is steadily carving out a name for himself in Philippine football. Born at Doctor’s Hospital in Zamboanga City, Aarran is the son of Maria Christina Dimapilis-Long, a proud Zamboangueña, and Derek Long, a British national. His mother traces her roots to the longstanding Mendoza-Larrachochea clan of Zamboanga City, giving Aarran a strong connection to the city where his story began.

Aarran spent his early childhood years in Zamboanga City, attending Bahay Bulilit Daycare Center in Sta. Maria. When his family later moved to Metro Manila, he continued his education at the British School Manila, where he remains enrolled for his secondary education.

It was in Manila where Aarran began laying the foundation for what would become a promising football career. He started his grassroots football journey with the British School Manila Football Academy, where he trained consistently and developed his technical abilities and understanding of the game. Interestingly, Aarran's development did not begin in the attacking role for which he is now becoming known. He initially played as a midfielder, learning to read the game, dictate play, connect with teammates and develop his passing and ball-control skills. His years of consistent training eventually helped him transition into a more advanced attacking role. That transition would prove crucial.

As his football matured, Aarran moved into the striker position, where his technical foundation, movement and attacking instincts could be fully utilized. He developed into a deadly striker, capable of posing a serious threat in and around the penalty area. His passion for football was also strongly influenced by his father, Derek, whose British background helped introduce Aarran to the sport at an early age. What began as a childhood interest gradually developed into a serious commitment to the game. That commitment eventually earned Aarran an opportunity to represent the Philippines at the youth international level.

Aarran emerged as one of the standout players of the Philippine Under-17 National Team, initially featuring as a striker during the AFC U-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers. His performances at the youth international level have placed him among the young players being watched as the Philippines continues to develop its next generation of football talent.

His progress reached another milestone on August 1, 2026, when Aarran made his debut for the Senior Men's National Team in the 2026 Hyundai Cup ASEAN Football tournament. Coming off the bench in the latter stages of the second half against Laos, he earned his first appearance in the competition as the Philippines secured an impressive 4-1 victory.

For a player who began his football journey at grassroots level and whose life story began in Zamboanga City, the moment represented another significant step forward. From Bahay Buliliy in Sta. Maria, to the British School Manila Football Academy, and eventually to the Philippine Under-17 National Team, Aarran's journey illustrates the importance of grassroots development, consistent training and the willingness to evolve as a player.
