ALEX EALA ENDS HER CAMPAIGN IN R16 LOSING TO BENCIC 4-6 0-6.

Alex was broken immediately at the start of the set then Bencic had a hold to love to lead 2-0. Bencic again broke Alex to increase her lead to 3-0 then held serve once more 4-0.

Alex still couldn’t get going, looking really fatigued was broken a 3rd time 5-0. Returning to stay in the match Alex saved 3 match points but Bencic couldn’t be denied the win on her 4th match point serving Alex a bagel 6-0.

What an incredible run for Alex starting in DC and now in Toronto. Now it’s time to recuperate, recharge and prepare for Cincinnati and the US Open.

I was surprised to learn Alex was 2nd in the WTA in terms of time spent on court this season in the main draw with 82 hours+ so definitely a timely break is needed.

ALEX EALA LOSES THE 1ST SET 4-6.

The first 2 games were service holds 1-1. Alex couldn’t save a 3rd break point 1-2 but broke back immediately with an aggressive return to level the score 2-2.

Bencic had another break of serve then consolidated by holding serve 4-2. Alex finally held serve with an ace 3-4 then converted on break point #3 to equalize 4-4.

Alex rallied from 15-40 to force deuce but Bencic still broke to move one game away 5-4 then held serve to win the set 6-4.
