Living in an island province as beautiful as ours has its trade-offs. Resources can be limited, and it's quite common for us to see our students leave for greener pastures and better futures for themselves and their families. Most keep training when they settle down; some don't, and that’s perfectly okay. Life is about way more than just Jiu-Jitsu—but Jiu-Jitsu will always be around when you need it.
X Z Yvian Ung started on the mats with us when he got to the Philippines at 13 years old. And yes, at first, he thought Jiu-Jitsu was gay (and it still is 🤣). But he kept showing up, putting in the work day by day alongside his dad, Pursuit of Coconuts . They both just kept getting better.
I guess why this farewell hits a little harder than the rest is because Xzy is our very first national athlete to represent our small island province. Having to train with almost exclusively adults, he jumped into the adult division at just 16, dominated, and finally made it to the Philippine Team this year.
Imagine a kid from the small, touristy town of Loboc traveling 50 kilometers every single training day—an hour just to get to the gym, and another hour to get home. That’s the kind of determination this kid has, and that's why this one hits different.
Good luck in university, Xzy. We’re going to miss you. Always know that your Bohol Island Jiu-Jitsu family will always be around for you. 🤙

In 2022, and his family arrived in Bohol and didn't just join our gym—they became family. Back then, Xzy was just 13, but he had a drive that was far beyond his years. He kept training with the adults and absorbing everything like a sponge.
Fast forward to 2026. Xzy is now 17, competing in the adult division and dominating. His journey is a masterclass in what happens when consistency meets determination. He is living proof that while manifesting a dream is a start, it’s the "showing up" day in and day out—the grind, the sweat, and the support of a loving family and team—that actually builds the reality.
Congratulations on your well-deserved Blue Belt, Xzy! This is only the beginning.

It’s one thing to compete; it’s another to dominate.
Huge congrats to XZY on a flawless performance at the Hyperfly Manila Open. Making the jump to the Adults division can be daunting, but finishing the day with a combined score of 41-0 (25-0, 6-0, 10-0) proves XZY belongs at the top. 👑
No points surrendered, just pure technique. Way to represent! 👏
Huge thanks to coaches for helping XZY prepare for this Comp!
Congrats as well to the very proud parents! . You raised not just a killer on the mats but an attentive and respectful individual.
