In celebration of National Women’s Month, the Gender and Development Program (GDP), Division of Humanities, Leyte Samar Heritage Center, and Pawn Pioneers, are thrilled to launch “Queen’s Gambit: Women’s Chess Tournament”—the opening event for this year’s National Women’s Month celebration!

The Queen’s Gambit, a cornerstone opening used by grandmasters, is a metaphor for how women take risks, challenge norms, and control the game. This tournament is more than a competition; it's a statement: when women are empowered, their potential is limitless.

In line with global and national commitments, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the Philippine Plan for Gender-Responsive Development, the tournament will feature inspiring stories from women who have excelled in sports, further promoting equality and women’s visibility in traditionally male-dominated arenas.

Let’s make every move count for gender equality! Join us and support women making their mark on and off the chessboard. 👑
