Carlos Miguel Fabon Mariano was in the middle of a Mobile Legends match when messages about the board exam results began coming in.

Unsure whether to finish the game or check the results, he went AFK, refreshed the PRC website, and saw his name at the very top.

In the April 2025 Civil Engineers Licensure Examination, Mariano ranked first nationwide with a 93.00% rating. He led 4,940 passers out of 16,913 examinees.

A magna cm laude graduate of BS Civil Engineering major in Structural Engineering from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Mariano’s path was not always straightforward. He initially wanted to pursue aeronautical engineering, but circumstances led him to PLM and civil engineering instead.

He later viewed those missed opportunities differently: not as endings, but as redirections toward the path meant for him.

While reviewing, Mariano did not follow a rigid daily schedule. He studied at his own pace through online review centers, worked through practice problems, and adjusted around the distractions of a busy home where he did not have a private room to study.

Even after realizing he had made three mistakes during the exam, he pushed himself to reset and finish strong. Becoming Top 1 had been more than a dream for him. As he shared, “I was manifesting it since the very start of my review.”

When the results finally appeared, the disbelief turned into joy. Mariano later described the achievement as his “revenge arc,” saying, “I never won a math competition. But this? This was my moment.”

From going AFK in Mobile Legends to becoming the country’s Top 1 civil engineer, his story shows that every delay, doubt, and redirection can still lead to the moment you have worked for.

Today, the Esports Club Commissioner and Treasurer, together with the Esports Club Adviser, officially endorsed the club’s second project for Academic Year 2025–2026, the Acer Projector, to the Office of Student Affairs.

This project aims to support the club’s future activities, events, and learning initiatives by providing better visual tools for presentations. The endorsement marks another step forward in the club’s commitment to growth, innovation, and service to the student community.

We extend our gratitude to the Office of Student Affairs for their continued support and guidance as we work toward meaningful projects for the Esports Club and the entire campus. 🎮✨
