Fadu's Badminton Tech Update: Custom Bounding box and other updates - one step closer to detecting rallies in videos.
🟩 Custom Poly-Masking: Instead of a basic cropping box, you can now drag four interactive corner nodes to trace the exact perspective lines of the court. Everything outside the green boundary is zeroed out before processing.
📳 Shuttle In-Flight Verification: To distinguish between an active rally and players just scrambling to pick up the shuttle, the engine now checks for a rhythmic hitting cadence in the audio track alongside high-velocity visual pixel streaks

Intent: I wanted to auto-clip my badminton session highlights, but commercial AI sports tracking software is locked behind expensive subscription paywalls. So I built my own open-source pipeline using Python. Instead of just tracking raw motion (which gets tricked by spectators or people walking past the camera), this script runs two parallel validation layers:
1. Spatial Masking: Focuses exclusively on the active court geometry, mathematically blinding the script to any background foot traffic.
2. Acoustic Transient Filtering: Uses a digital high-pass filter to isolate the sharp 3kHz - 5kHz audio impulse frequencies unique to a clean stringbed-to-shuttle connection.
Here’s a quick look at the live parameter tuning sandbox. When visual changes align with the acoustic impulse spikes, a valid rally window is logged and immediately queued for seamless FFmpeg clipping. No cloud costs, no ongoing subscriptions—just local ex*****on.
