The FIVB-appointed Ad-Hoc Committee has unveiled a comprehensive reform roadmap for the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), outlining the critical steps needed to lift its suspension and strengthen the future of Philippine volleyball.
Following consultations with the POC, PSC, PVL, coaches, and athletes, the FIVB identified key priorities centered on transparency, athlete welfare, and sustainable growth.
The PNVF is expected to:
• Honor its 7-year partnership agreement with the PSC, including the Volleyball Empowerment Program.• Settle all unpaid salaries of national team coaches and ensure timely compensation moving forward.• Align the PVL with the National League calendar by 2027 and guarantee player availability for national team duties.• Strengthen governance by implementing a conflict-of-interest The FIVB-appointed Ad-Hoc Committee has officially laid out the roadmap for the 🇵🇭 Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) to lift its suspension and build a sustainable future for the sport!
Following extensive consultations with the POC, PSC, PVL, athletes, and coaches, the FIVB has outlined an 8-point pathway focusing on governance, athlete welfare, and long-term development.
Here is what the PNVF must accomplish:
PSC Collaboration: Sign a written commitment to honor the 7-year PSC Agreement for event organization and the Volleyball Empowerment program.
Coach Compensation: Immediately pay all outstanding salaries to coaches and commit to on-time payments moving forward.
PVL Alignment: Move the PVL into the National League season by 2027, sync with the FIVB calendar, and mandate player releases for national team duties.
Governance: Create a strict conflict-of-interest policy within 3 months and complete an FIVB-defined good governance training program within 6 months.
Long-Term Blueprint: Develop an FIVB-approved, long-term roadmap for the national team, complete with proper infrastructure and budgeting.
Athlete Voice: Establish an Athletes’ Commission within 6 months and amend by-laws to include an athlete representative on the PNVF Board.
Grassroots Expansion: Launch a regional league within 6 months to discover talent outside Metro Manila and create a sustainable pathway to the national team.
Moving forward, the FIVB and POC will form a Transition Committee to oversee PNVF operations during the suspension and ensure strict compliance with these vital reforms.
and completing FIVB governance training.• Develop a long-term, FIVB-approved strategic plan for the national team with proper funding and infrastructure.• Establish an Athletes' Commission and provide athletes with representation on the PNVF Board.• Expand grassroots volleyball through regional leagues to identify and develop talent nationwide.
To oversee these reforms, the FIVB and the POC will establish a Transition Committee that will monitor compliance and guide the federation toward a stronger, more accountable future.
A new chapter begins for Philippine volleyball—one built on integrity, unity, and long-term development.

PAY AFTER? WHY SHOULD IT ALWAYS BE THIS WAY?
I am Jomag, also known as Coach Russell, a National Referee under the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF). Yesterday, I was invited to be part of the officiating team for a volleyball event. We handled three games and fulfilled our duties professionally from start to
finish.
The working conditions were far from easy. The playing area was extremely humid, and after several hours of officiating, I was physically exhausted and drained. Despite the challenges, we remained committed to ensuring fair play and the successful conduct of the games.
However, here is the disappointing reality: until now, the game officials have not yet been paid.
A night has passed, and another day has begun, yet our compensation remains unpaid. Sadly, this is not the first time this particular sports organizer has practiced this kind of system and treatment toward game officials.
People often think that referees and officials are simply volunteers who can wait indefinitely for payment. What many fail to understand is that officiating is also work. We spend our time, energy, expertise, and personal resources to make sporting events successful.
Had we received our payments immediately after the event, we could have already purchased rice for our families, groceries for our homes, fuel for our service vehicles, and attended to other daily necessities. Just like everyone else, officials have responsibilities and financial obligations.
This is why I strongly believe that game officials should be paid immediately after the event whenever possible. Prompt payment is not merely about money it is about respect, professionalism, and valuing the people who work behind the scenes to make every game possible.
We do our part. We show up on time. We endure the heat. We make difficult calls. We help ensure the integrity of the sport.
The least organizers can do is honor their commitment and pay officials on time.
Respect the game. Respect the officials. Pay them promptly.

GONE TOO SOON... 🕊️
With profound sadness, we join the Ateneo de Manila University community in mourning the untimely passing of Rene Clert Baterbonia and Divine Adili, student-athletes of the Ateneo Men’s Basketball Team, who tragically lost their lives in a drowning incident during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora, on June 8, 2026.
Rene and Divine embodied the values of dedication, discipline, and camaraderie that define the Blue Eagle spirit. Their passion for the game, commitment to their team, and impact on those around them will never be forgotten.
Their loss is deeply felt by their families, friends, teammates, coaches, classmates, and the entire Ateneo community. Though their journey was cut short, their legacy will continue to inspire those whose lives they touched.
As we grieve this heartbreaking tragedy, we offer our sincerest condolences to their loved ones and pray for strength, comfort, and healing during this difficult time.
May Rene and Divine be remembered with love, respect, and gratitude.
Rest in peace, Blue Eagles. Your memories will live on forever. 🕊️💙

FIVB SUSPENDS PNVF
The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has imposed the immediate suspension of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) following serious governance issues and alleged breaches of the FIVB Code of Ethics that are currently under investigation.
To safeguard the interests of athletes and maintain continuity in volleyball operations, the FIVB has established an Ad Hoc Committee to temporarily manage the affairs of Philippine volleyball during the suspension period.
The committee's key responsibilities include ensuring the participation of Philippine national teams in upcoming international competitions and overseeing preparations for the hosting of the Women’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in the Philippines.
According to the FIVB, this action is intended to uphold transparency, accountability, and the integrity of the sport while protecting the welfare of athletes and supporting the continued growth of volleyball in the country.
