Rest in Power, John Vincent "JV" Gallego

(March 26, 1998 – July 18, 2026)

The Philippine basketball community mourns the passing of John Vincent "JV" Gallego, who died at the age of 28 following a vehicular accident along the NLEX in Meycauayan.

JV made his mark in Philippine basketball, beginning with Chiang Kai Shek College during his high school years before suiting up for the National University Bulldogs and later the San Beda Red Lions in college. He was a member of San Beda's NCAA Season 99 championship team and also represented the Philippines in the 2016 FIBA Asia U18 Championship.

He briefly played professionally for the Bicol Volcanoes in the MPBL in 2024 before dedicating himself to developing the next generation of athletes as the Head of the Basketball Program at World Citi Colleges (WCC).

What Gilas need is a naturalized point guard.

Obvious sa last window na hirap i-break ng Gilas ang full court pressure ng NZ at Australia. Hirap si RJ, could be because of the height difference. Ramos is not a natural point guard. SI JGDL naman mukhang mas effective kung SG.

So I think we need a naturalized point guard this time. Someone like Jayson Castro in his prime pero mas matangkad. Someone who can bring the ball down with ease. Someone na kayang umiscore kapag kailangan. Someone who can pe*****te, break the defense and look for possible kick outs.

I think the team is well covered naman na sa wings and bigs. Wings with KQ, Tamayo, Baltazar, Oftana. Bigs with QMB, Edu, Phillips, Sotto, Kouame(If mapayagan maging local).
