Dear MVHAI-IV Neighbors,
As the typhoon and flood season approaches once again, your MVHAI officers continue to work diligently to address the longstanding flooding concerns affecting Timothy, Acacia, and Bangkal areas.
We would like to update you on the actions undertaken over the past three weeks to help mitigate this recurring problem:
May 4, 2026 – The officers conducted an ocular inspection of Baloc-Baloc Creek, a major drainage waterway serving our village and neighboring communities, including Camella, Don Bosco, Moonwalk, and City Garden. During the inspection, we observed that the creek was heavily clogged with garbage and debris.
May 5, 2026 – Formal request letters were sent to the MMDA, the LGU through CENRO, and the Barangay, seeking assistance for a creek cleanup operation.
May 13, 2026 – The MMDA responded to our request and conducted its own inspection of Baloc-Baloc Creek. An eight-member MMDA team was subsequently assigned to assist in the cleanup effort.
May 27, 2026 – The cleanup drive officially commenced with the participation of MMDA personnel, HOA officers, and the Barangay Kalikasan Team under the leadership of Barangay Captain Doc Jem, represented by Kagawad Max Cristobal.
Based on the findings during the cleanup activity, it is evident that the flooding problem is both serious and long-term in nature. The primary causes include:
• Continuous dumping of garbage into the creek by informal settlers along its banks;
• Illegal encroachments that obstruct water flow; and
• Significant siltation and shallowing of the creek, which require dredging and the use of heavy equipment.
Addressing these issues will require the coordinated support of several government agencies, including the LGU, DENR, DPWH, and PNP.
While the recent cleanup drive has helped improve conditions, it is only a temporary measure. Unless the continuous disposal of waste into the creek is stopped, clogging and flooding will persist.
At present, Congressman Brian Yamsuan, in coordination with the DPWH, is overseeing dredging operations in Don Galo Creek and Villanueva Creek as part of ongoing flood-mitigation efforts in Sucat. In light of this, we are preparing a petition letter to the Congressman, to be signed by the homeowners' associations of Verdant, City Garden, Camella, Timothy Homes, and Multi Main, requesting that Baloc-Baloc Creek be included in future inspection and dredging operations.
We appreciate your understanding, cooperation, and continued support as we work together toward a lasting solution to our flooding concerns.
Respectfully yours,
VALENTE P. VILLEGAS
President
MVHAI-IV
