SAWUBONA
is a traditional Zulu greeting from South Africa that literally translates " I see you" More deeply, it translates "I see you, you are important to me, and I value you."
In our Session 3 of the Management Development Program for the Nikkei Group, I received an unexpected token of socks. Yes, socks.
In one of my stories during the session, she remembered that it generally makes happy wearing new socks. Who doesn't? Right?!
She gifted me with 3 pairs. Together with a handwritten note that says "Hi Coach, I just remembered that you're happy whenever someone gives you socks. I want you to know that we truly appreciate you - Cel"
I rarely receive tokens, and when I do - it really warms my heart knowing that I have made an impact on their and .
I was a bit tough on them the previous week (with Management approval of course) and with good measure, they lived up to program's expectations.
We're on our last leg of the program this June. I'm having a little sepanx (separation anxiety). I can't wait for them apply and follow through on our learnings in the program.
Ms Cel, Yabo Sawubona (Yes, I see you and value you too.

2 sides of the same coin.
I have been comfortable in being on-stage and back stage.
On separate occassions, I have been a master of ceremonies or commonly known as emcee.
And the director of the event.
Always have been the courageous one to always volunteer in speaking in front, one of the fears I have conquered to this day.
Ang mindset ko, kaya ko naman e. Kaya gagawin ko na..
It's always a challenging and fulfilling task to walk up the stage and influence your audience.
On the other hand, being in the background involves meticulous planning, keen eye for detail, risk mitigation and assessment, criticalthinking and problemsolving
skills.
Once you have planned and executed a well planned event, you will never look at events the same way.
The exhilaration..
Butterflies in your stomach..
Nakaka kaba talaga siya. 😁
Anticipation of both the good and bad outcomes
Orchestrating the show as planned
And in the end, the quiet calm and celebration that you performed to the best of your abilities.
Robert Schuller said it best when he said "Spectacular performance is always preceded by unspectacular preparation"
4th quarter is just around the corner, planning your year end events should start as early as Q2.
Kudos to the HR teams working on their company events - often thankless but certainly fulfilling.
