Respect is not optional.
We appreciate the prompt action taken by the concerned tourism authorities in addressing our concern.
We hope this serves as a reminder that every tourist, runner, and hiker deserves to be treated with professionalism, dignity, and respect.
Let us continue building an outdoor community where safety, accountability, and respect are non-negotiable.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT
BASTA Hiking Club | BASTA Running Club
BASTA Hiking Club and BASTA Running Club strongly condemn any form of conduct that objectifies, sexualizes, or disrespects tourists, hikers, runners, and members of the outdoor community.
Whether on the trails or on the roads, every participant deserves to feel safe, respected, and welcomed. No individual should ever become the subject of sexual innuendos, inappropriate remarks, or degrading behavior by those entrusted to guide, organize, or serve the community.
Recently, we became aware of a social media post by a tour guide from Espadang Bato, Barangay Mascap, Municipality of Rodriguez (formerly Montalban), Rizal, which used a touristโs photograph together with a caption containing sexual innuendo. We initially raised our concern respectfully through the proper channels and through a public comment. That comment was subsequently removed.
Our position remains unchanged.
Being a public figure does not diminish a personโs right to dignity and respect. No one, whether a celebrity or an ordinary tourist, hiker, or runner, should be sexualized, objectified, or made the subject of inappropriate remarks simply because they chose to visit a destination or participate in an outdoor activity.
This issue extends beyond one individual or one incident. It reflects the standards we expect from everyone who represents the hiking, running, and tourism communities. The responsibility of a tour guide, organizer, or community leader goes beyond leading a trail or managing an event, it includes fostering an environment where every visitor feels safe, respected, and valued.
We have formally referred this matter to the appropriate barangay and government authorities and have requested that it be reviewed through the proper process. We trust that they will address this matter fairly and appropriately.
Our intention is not to shame any individual, but to advocate for a culture where professionalism, respect, accountability, and visitor safety are non-negotiable.
To every tour guide, race organizer, marshal, outdoor leader, and community volunteer: your words carry as much weight as your actions. Let every visitor leave with memories of breathtaking trails, meaningful runs, and genuine hospitality, not discomfort caused by inappropriate behavior.
BASTA Hiking Club and BASTA Running Club remain committed to promoting safe, inclusive, and respectful outdoor experiences for everyone.
Respect. Professionalism. Safety. Always.

AGAIN,
A friendly reminder on race etiquette.
If you need to walk, take photos, or stop for a selfieโฆ
Please move to the right first.
The left side and middle of the course is often used by runners maintaining their pace or chasing a PR/PB.
A few steps to the side can make a big difference.
Letโs make every race safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
Walk on the right. Run on the left.
