Goodevening Everyone 🤜🏽 Let's Talk About Arnis:

Arnis is weapons-based martial art native to the Philippines which also goes by many names such as Eskrima, Estokada. Kali and many others. Arnis can be found in many parts of the country from the Visayas regions to certain parts of Luzon such as Paete in Laguna province. There are many theories as to where and how this martial art started. According to Celestino C. Macachor's article on the theories of the origins of arnis for the martial arts magazine "Rapid Journal", a folklore in Iloilo in West Visayas persist that an ancient bladed combat art called "Kali" that was brought over to the country by the legendary ten Datus of Borneo is the progenitor of all modern Arnis styles. He also gives examples of more credible theories as to where Arnis came from, especially styles from the Visayas region, that it arose as a way to defend themselves from Moro pirates who prowled the shores during the Spanish colonial period.

Although Arnis is well-known for its stick fighting methods, also has sword fighting, knife fighting, and in some styles incorporates more unusual weapons such as long sticks, spears, and even nunchakus. It is also rich in defensive techniques as a mean to preserving oneself from the arsenal of weapons mentioned such as disarming techniques against knives, sticks, and even swords. In higher levels, this native martial art also incorporates empty hand methods from striking, locks and grips, and even grappling in some styles called "Dumog".
