This is the Official page of the Department of Behavioral Sciences of the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of the Philippines Manila.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Behavioral Science was launched in 1987 and was administered by the Department of Social Sciences. It was then known as BA Social Studies (Behavioral Studies). In 1999, the name of the program was changed to Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science to provide the program its unique position in the academic community. The microcredential course, Understanding People and Evidence: Foundations of Archaeological, Anthropological, and Forensic Behavioral Sciences, was officially launched this morning!

It was opened by Dr. Ma. Teresa G. De Guzman, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The lecture schedule will be announced shortly. Course lectures will be available through the UP Manila Open Learning Platform.

We're pleased to spotlight a new publication by faculty member Marion Abilene R. Navarro, "Infodemic amidst a pandemic: eHealth literacy among Filipino Facebook users during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic," now out in the Philippine Journal of Health Research and Development.

This mixed-methods study on Filipino Facebook users aged 18-24 found that educational attainment and household income were the significant correlates of eHealth literacy. Despite being aware of rampant misinformation, respondents continued to rely on Facebook for health information, largely because LGUs and government agencies disseminate their updates through the platform. The study also surfaced how cultural norms such as hiya and pakikisama made many users hesitant to correct false information—especially younger people correcting elders.

Together, these findings suggest that combating the infodemic requires more than individual literacy: it calls for stronger media literacy education, platform accountability, and a whole-of-society approach.
