The United Kendo Federation of the Philippines (UKFP) officially announces the opening of the 𝗨𝗞𝗙𝗣 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻-𝗨𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱.

Mel Castillon wins the Fighting Spirit Award at the 1st Asia-Oceania Kendo Championship in Tokyo, Japan Among the weekend’s historic milestones, Metro Kendo Club is bursting with pride to celebrate our very own Melduen Castillon, who was honored with the prestigious Fighting Spirit Award (Kantō-shō) for her exceptional performance in the Women's Individual - 3Dan and Under Category at the 1st AOKC

🧠 THE THREE KILLS: Win Before You Strike ⚔️

San-sappo (strictly transliterated from Japanese as Sansaho / 三殺法, but widely written in English dojo manuals as Sansappo or San-Sapo) is one of the most ruthless and brilliant tactical frameworks in Japanese swordsmanship.

Often translated directly as "The Three Kills" or "The Three Methods of Destruction," it is a psychological and physical blueprint for systematically dismantling an opponent before you ever commit to a final strike.

The concept of San-sappo teaches "wins first, then strikes."

✨ Ken wo Korosu (剣を殺す) or "Kill the Sword"
This is the physical layer of the strategy. You cannot hit the target if their shinai is perfectly blocking the path. "Killing the sword" means taking control of the physical weapon.

You manipulate their blade. You can do this by osae (pressing down on their shinai), harai (sweeping it aside with a sharp, flicking motion), or maki (twisting/looping their blade out of the center line).

✨ Waza wo Korosu (技を殺す) or "Kill the Technique"
This is the tactical, rhythm-based layer. Every fighter has a favorite move, a comfortable distance (maai), and a preferred tempo. "Killing the technique" means completely disrupting their game plan.

You use footwork and positioning to steal their rhythm. If they like to strike from afar, you crowd their space. If they want to step forward, you step forward faster, choking their movement. You constantly threaten them with seme (mental pressure) at unexpected moments.

✨ Ki wo Korosu (気を殺す) or “Kill the Spirit"
This is the ultimate, psychological layer. Ki is spiritual energy, confidence, and intent. "Killing the spirit" means breaking your opponent's will to fight.

This is achieved through overwhelming presence. You execute a terrifying, bone-chilling kiai (shout/spirit) that echoes through the dojo. Your kamae (posture) is completely unshakeable, and your forward pressure feels like a closing wall. You show absolutely zero hesitation.

When the sword, the technique, and the spirit are dead, the opponent has already lost. All that's left for you to do is step forward and drop the blade.
