MANILA, Philippines — A new chapter in Philippine basketball is about to unfold as the Abra Solid North Weavers become the first-ever MPBL team to compete in the East Asia Super League (EASL).

The reigning Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League champions will represent the MPBL in the 2026–27 EASL season, marking a historic step for the young franchise and the league founded by Manny Pacquiao. (South China Morning Post)

Abra joined the MPBL in 2024 and quickly emerged as one of the league’s strongest teams, capturing the championship in only its second season. The Weavers have continued their strong form in 2026, highlighted by a nine-game winning streak earlier in the season. (Spin.ph)

MUNZON-TO-TNT TRADE STILL HAS A CHANCE 👀

MANILA, Philippines — The proposed trade that would send Joshua Munzon from Titan Ultra Giant Risers to TNT Tropang 5G may not be dead yet, despite the original version of the deal falling through.

According to reports from Homer Sayson and Fastbreak, TNT remains interested in acquiring Munzon as the team looks to add depth to its depleted guard rotation.

The initial proposal reportedly involved Munzon going to TNT in exchange for rookie center Joe Celso and a future first-round pick. However, the deal failed to move forward after running into issues during the PBA approval process.

The trade could still be revived, but both sides would need to rework the original package to meet the requirements of the PBA Commissioner’s Office.

Financial considerations are also reportedly part of Titan Ultra’s motivation, with Munzon said to be earning around ₱420,000 per month.

On the court, Munzon has been one of Titan Ultra’s key contributors this conference, averaging 15.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in eight games.

For TNT, adding Munzon could provide another athletic and versatile guard who can contribute on both ends of the floor—especially as the Tropang 5G deal with injuries and a thin backcourt rotation.

For now, nothing is final.
