BATLE FOR THIRD: UPHSD Stuns DLSU, Claims Third Place in Roxas City Invitational Tournament

AUGUST 26 — University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas pulled off a stunning upset over De La Salle University Green Archers, 66–64, to seize third place in the Roxas City Invitational Tournament 2026 in Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center.

UPHSD survived a late-game battle against the heavily favored DLSU, overcoming a seven-point deficit after three quarters to complete the comeback and secure the podium finish.

The Altas fell behind early, trailing 15–16 after the opening period and 33–38 at halftime. DLSU extended its advantage in the third quarter, taking a 61–53 lead heading into the final five minutes.

But UPHSD refused to fold.

The Altas clamped down defensively in the fourth quarter while finding just enough offense to turn the game around. They outscored DLSU, 11–10, in the final period and held the Green Archers to just three points over the closing stretch to sn**ch the two-point victory.

Aries Borja led UPHSD with 16 points, while Mark Gojo-Cruz added 11. Several Altas contributed crucial baskets throughout the tightly contested affair.

DLSU, meanwhile, was paced by David Andrei Dungo and Francis Amos, who each finished with 17 points. Jacob Zion Cortez also chipped in 10 points for the Green Archers.

The upset was made even more impressive by DLSU's strong offensive performance inside the paint, where the Green Archers held a 48–24 advantage. UPHSD answered with timely defense and transition opportunities, scoring 14 points off turnovers and making the most of its opportunities down the stretch.
